I was doing some maintenance in the comm today and want to thank every one of you who‘ve made posts, keeping the comm alive with your fanworks, recs and enthusiasm! 2023 saw more activity than previous years and that is all thanks to you! \o/

Friendly reminder to please tag your entries with all relevant tags (I know some of you already do this). No need to go back and retag, I did that for all entries for 2023.

ETA: Ride just pointed out to me that only mods can tag, so please strike that reminder from your memory. It‘s been too long since I checked.

In conclusion, please use the tags that are there (in the new Create Entries menu, it‘s under "Tags", click the grey "Browse" button to see all the tags that already exist!

Late tag is late, sorry everyone. I didn‘t know that for the first two thirds of the year we didn‘t even have a tag for Fraser/RayK fic. It is fixed now and I tagged all untagged entries appropriately.

ETA: I went back through all untagged entries of 2017 and tagged. Ha I knew only three Fraser/RayK fics in that year couldn‘t be right. *g*

Thanks and welcome to everyone who signed up!

We will be sending out assignments sometime between now and Friday October 20.

When assignments go out, there will be an announcement posted to the DreamWidth and Tumblr comms.

You will receive your assignment BY EMAIL.  It will go to whatever address is linked to your AO3 account.  So keep an eye on that email over the next week!  We'll be asking you to confirm receipt of your assignment via email, just to prevent miscommunication.

\o/

Welcome!

To everyone coming over from LJ to Dreamwidth, hello and welcome to the Dreamwidth version of [community profile] ds_noticeboard! To everyone who's been posting here for years, HI! :DDD

If you scroll down the noticeboard front page, you'll notice a zillion duplicate posts. I apologize for that, but it's an unavoidable side effect of importing one active journal into another active journal. If you really really really want to go through and delete extra copies of your posts, you can, but, honestly, I'm not worried about it. They'll scroll off the noticeboard's front page soon enough, anyway.

You can now also check out the newly imported versions of [community profile] ds_flashfiction, [community profile] ds_team_angst, [community profile] ds_team_reality, and [community profile] ds_team_romance. Hooray fandom history!

[community profile] ds_team_whimsy and [community profile] ds_workshop DO NOT EXIST YET, as apparently DW only lets you create three new communities at once. (Oops? Now we know!) I'll import those as soon as DW lets me.

Again, there will be NO further imports of these comms from LJ to DW. This is a one-time only deal, so please post any and all new [community profile] ds_noticeboard posts HERE. Thanks!

Hello everyone!

As many of you are aware, there are concerns (many links here) regarding last month's sudden, unannounced move of LJ's servers from the US to Russia, where there are no privacy protections and no enforced legal protection for free speech. Six Apart (SUP) has been in financial trouble for some time, and, given the new circumstances, there's a fair degree of worry that LJ could be shuttered without notice.

I think it's fair to say that back in the early 2000s, LJ comms were the heart and soul of Due South fandom, and multiple people have come to me requesting that I import the communities that I mod to Dreamwidth in order to preserve our awesome fannish history against potential erasure. I am totally on board with this, because even if LJ stays around forever, it never hurts to have a backup.

Currently on the list for import:
[livejournal.com profile] ds_flashfiction
[livejournal.com profile] ds_team_angst
[livejournal.com profile] ds_team_reality
[livejournal.com profile] ds_team_romance
[livejournal.com profile] ds_team_whimsy
[livejournal.com profile] ds_workshop

These comms will be imported to Dreamwidth in about a week. None of these comms have any new/recent posts; they're being archived at Dreamwidth to preserve our fandom history. If you find, for whatever reason, that you don't want your posts to these comms backed up to Dreamwidth, just send me the links to any entries you're concerned about and they'll be removed.

What about [livejournal.com profile] ds_noticeboard, you ask? I'll be getting in touch with Ces, as founder and owner of the comm, to figure out a good solution. One of us will post more news here when we have it.

edit: okay! Ces is on board with importing [livejournal.com profile] ds_noticeboard as well. Again, this will be happening in about a week. Preserving fandom history FTW!

Apparently a couple of days ago, the noticeboard's FK.2015 tag was deleted and then recreated. Recreating a tag does NOT restore that tag to the entries that had used the tag and LJ does not cache that data. LJ Support has not been particularly helpful in tracking down what happened. I haven't been to the comm's manage tags page in months, so all this was a total surprise to me.

Can someone try to add this tag to another FK fic, both on an entry you posted and an entry you didn't? The comm should be set to allow any logged in comm member to add existing tags to any entries, but not to create new tags or delete tags from posts (or the comm tags management page, for that matter). I successfully added the FK.2015 tag to the last FK fic posted with my mod access, but I want to make sure everyone else is able to tag posts as well. Thanks

eta: The tag is functional again, yay! Thanks to Ride for testing it.

Hi [livejournal.com profile] ds_noticeboard users! We've had a request to consider altering our tag structure, and so I wanted to get some input from you.

Right now, the tags are set up mostly by genre (podfic, vid, art, fic) and category (het, gen, femslash). Fic has sub-classifications by slash pairing (and DS or C6D) because LJ only holds 1000 entries within a tag, and anything older simply doesn't show up. Art is sub-classified by DS or C6D.

The request is that we redo the tags to classify fanwork posts first by relationship (or gen), regardless of what medium the fanwork is in.

Our current relationship tags would either need to be revised or left behind, and we would need to agree on the new set of top-level relationship tags.

Please note that if we do a major revision, we'll have to decide whether to go back and re-sort all the old works tagged by genre into the NEW relationship categories. If that happens, then we would need a team of volunteers to go through them all individually and retag them. We might also need to subdivide the gen tag by year, as our nearly-nine-year total of art, podfic, vids, and genfic definitely exceeds 1000 entries, and not all of them would go into the new relationship tags. (I cannot do the sorting myself, although I'm happy to rename and create new tags. If we do it that way, it's going to have to be a group effort.)

So, tag-users, what do you think? Would top-level relationship tags be more useful to you than top-level genre tags? I'm especially interested in thoughts and ideas from those of you who actively use the noticeboard's tags to find works -- or who WOULD use the tags if they were constructed differently. Helpful suggestions for new tag architecture are welcome, esp if easily implemented.

We'll have some further discussion if there's enough volunteer support for an overhaul. Thanks!

This is a friendly modly reminder that one of [livejournal.com profile] ds_noticeboard's primary reasons for existence is for you to promote your work in Due South & C6D fandoms, so please make use of the comm! Post a header, a link to the work (not the work itself please), and tag it with whatever tags are relevant. If you have any questions, please ask!

In the old days, there was a policy of waiting for a challenge mod to post an index here following the challenge, but those days are gone. Unless your challenge mod specifically says otherwise, feel free to announce your DS & C6D works here as soon as they go live/are revealed! \o/

(Tag note: the challenge-announcements tag is meant for mod-use, for challenge mods to label announcements related to fanwork challenges. Thanks!)

Hi, all! I have a few bits of admin news:

1. We have a new tag called =fandom games. If you run something like a Mad Libs game, a digital scavenger hunt, fandom tag, or any other kind of DS and/or C6D game that is different from a traditional challenge, this is the tag to use. Some things can be challenges AND games, too, so use both tags if it seems appropriate.

2. Everyone is welcome to host things like this here at [livejournal.com profile] ds_noticeboard. We do prefer fanworks to be hosted on your journals and LINKED here, as usual, but we absolutely welcome fandom events, too. If you have any questions, please ask!

3. ALWAYS tag your posts, please! (If you don't, then I end up doing it and I don't always know what tags are best. Note: the only posts I don't tag are beta-requests, since there's little need to index those.)

4. HELP! I'm afraid the fandom resources linked up in the top corner of the noticeboard main page are woefully out of date, and it would be great if we could make it a little easier for newbies to find their way around. Would anyone be willing to put together a new version? This could totally be a team-effort if multiple people can volunteer.

As always, if you need anything related to the comm, want to make suggestions, or have any questions, please leave a comment or email me. Thanks!

Hey all! I wanted to let everyone know that I've just reorganized the Noticeboard's tags in hopes that this will make it easier for everyone to find the tags they're looking for.

Please remember to tag your posts! Thank you!

ExpandRevamped tags )

Also, a reminder about spam, as I've been getting some lately on old DS posts. If you get a spam comment on any post you've made on LJ, go to the post and look for the anti-spam icon (a circle with a slash through it). Click that to 'delete as spam' and automatically report the comment to the LJ spam team. If the page layout doesn't have the anti-spam icon, there should still be a checkbox and pulldown menu that will let you delete selected comments as spam.

Thanks!

There's been another upsurge in spam comments to posts on [community profile] ds_noticeboard, among other LJ comms. If you get a spam comment on any of your noticeboard posts, please click "Delete Comment", check "Mark as Spam", and then confirm deletion. This puts the comment into LJ's anti-spam queue for them to trace the source.

Deleting comments without checking the "Mark as Spam" ticky box fails to report the spammer, leaving LJ unable to fight the inundation. If you have any weird comment situations you have questions about, feel free to comment below or email me (sageness/gmail) and I'll see what I can do to help.

Thanks & sorry for the inconvenience!

Hi everyone! It's been a while since I posted any admin stuff, but I have a couple of announcements.

First, welcome to all the newbies to Due South & C6D fandom! We're so glad you're here! \o/

Second, just for the record, [livejournal.com profile] ds_noticeboard welcomes anything and everything in the C6D purview. We always have, always will. All we ask is you tag your posts and LINK to fic rather than posting it directly to the comm.

The new thing: I think perhaps the rule against crossposting announcements of fic to [livejournal.com profile] ds_flashfiction and [livejournal.com profile] ds_snippets on the noticeboard has outlived its purpose. Back in 2005-06, when people were posting 4-10 stories every day, it made a lot of sense to ask people not to announce flashfic on the noticeboard, especially since most people in DS fandom had both communities friended. Now, traffic is low enough that I think announcing to the noticeboard would actually HELP ds_ff and ds_s get more readers.

So, if you're posting flashfic and snippets, please do feel free to announce your fic here!

Thanks!

(edited slightly for coherence. *g*)

It's New Year's Day in some parts of the world, so I'd like to wish everyone a very happy, healthy, and prosperous 2010 -- AND also to inaugurate the new year's FK tag: fic: fk.2010!!! Please use this tag when posting Fraser/RayK fic for the coming year.

If you have any questions or suggestions for making the tag system work better, just let me know.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! \o/

Because C6D fandom is growing and growing, I'd like to introduce some new tags. First, I've gotten rid of the old 6degrees tag. Everything previously contained within it is now labeled 'c6d: fic', since most of it *is* fic. I'll shift the art and other stuff out of it and into their new containers as I'm able to (or if someone has extra time on their hands and wants to help, let me know!).

I know this sort of undermines the present Genre tag delineations, but I felt like C6D was the most important key term here.

c6d: art
c6d: fic
c6d: general

I am absolutely open to suggestions if anyone can think of a more logical, user-friendly, and simple tag arrangement. Remember our goal with tagging is to make [livejournal.com profile] ds_noticeboard as browsable-by-category as possible while still keeping it super-easy to maintain. If you have ideas, please say so.

Many thanks!
Sage

Happy Thanksgiving, Canadians!

Also, many thanks to everyone who played at the fabulous DS Social this past weekend. There are 184 comments (and counting) over there at the moment, and everyone is still encouraged to come by and introduce yourselves, do a meme, post picspam, and meet fen you might not know.

Yay fandom! \o/

Hi all! There are lots of new faces around DS/C6D fandom lately, so I wanted to take a moment to say hello and sketch out what goes where, and then we'll start the party! :D

As you know, [livejournal.com profile] ds_noticeboard is the place for sharing links to your fic and art. We also love to see posts about: meta, icons, podfic, fanmixes, recs, fandom news, fandom chats, interviews with DS people, challenges, new communities, TV/Film screening dates, fan cons, freecycle/sale items, and pretty much anything except RPF. (That has its own place, thus sparing our peace of mind. :P)

DS has spawned multiple fandoms collectively known as C6D (six degrees of Canada), meaning work the DS actors have done besides DS). Anything DS or C6D is welcome here, but if it's C6D, please tag it 6degrees. Speaking of tags, please tag all your posts for ease of finding stuff again later.

On characters: We do our best here to keep the noticeboard friendly to all characters and pairings/moresomes. That means ALL Rays, all Frasers, all Vecchios, Dief, Gardino, Frannie, Meg, Mort, Denny Scarpa, slash, het, femslash, gen. Character-bashing makes Dief howl and Fraser cry, so please, please be courteous concerning other people's character-loves. *g*

Last, the links in the right nav bar of the [livejournal.com profile] ds_noticeboard main page take you to fandom resources, of which there are many. As always, if you have any questions at all, please just ask!

And now...

Welcome to the spur-of-the-moment

October '09 DS Social!

Please come say hi and introduce yourselves in the comments below! Talk, mingle, pimp your con, add memes in new comments so people can answer in threads, and so forth! I'll start some questions off in the first comment, but feel free to add more. Okay? Okay!

eta: Now with picspam!
