Hello, here is a list of recent updates from the Due South! Facebook page, that I haven't seen elsewhere.

1) Thanks to a post by Susan Momot on the Due South! Facebook group, happy to report that due South is now available on Disney+ in Canada.

Based on multiple comments to the post... it is NOT available on Disney+ in the US. Don't know about other countries.

2) On April 23, the Due South Facebook group posted birthday greetings for Martha Burns! Aww. See: the Facebook post.

3) April 22, Claire Wickes Saunders posted this in the Due South! Facebook group: The
Guardian review of Good Night, and Good Luck
. Paul Gross is not mentioned, except in passing, though.

Hi all!

So, we celebrated the anniversary of the pilot airing last week, and that means the main run of 30 Below is done.
I want to thank you all for being so welcoming and excited about this event. It's been awesome celebrating with you <3

However, I will always feel the need to remind you it doesn't mean you can't keep doing things under the fest umbrella :) In fact, it would be awesome if you do.

Now, for those of you who aren't on tumblr much but want to catch up: making some masterlists would be a massive amount of work, but theoretically doable; however, it makes little sense to list individual post links, even sorted by themes, when there's a whole blog of tagged posts to explore.

So here's the
navigation guide posted on tumblr itself. All the tag names in it are clickable, and there are search pointers at the end so you can see.

The list isn't comprehensive (e.g. there's one fanmix that didn't make the list in the post, as well as some characters and ships, and some c6d fandoms), so just try out other tags in the blog search (not general tumblr search)—it's the search bar at the top if you open blog in this view and the search icon to the left of "posts/likes/following" if you open this view. However, bear in mind that tumblr search is... imperfect, to put it mildly, so you might miss some entries. I am sorry about that, if I find a way around that, I'll update this post!

And of course, if you want to just dive right in and make sure you don't miss even one post, you can scroll through the whole blog as well! It's only 28 pages ;)

And finally we arrive at the actual anniversary date!

This week's only goal is to do whatever your heart desires. There are no prompts.

Think of it as amnesty period, if you'd like. Only there's still no deadline and no pressure! The whole year is anniversary year. You're never too late. The AO3 collection is open indefinitely.

If you want to do your thing in your circle, that's great! If you want others to see it, please link or post it here or over at [community profile] dsvirtualbar. Plus, let me know if you want any of it crossposted or linked at the fest's tumblr blog!

Since there's way too much participation on tumblr to fit into a masterpost—at least for me right now—I will make a tags rundown post soon to help you navigate the blog and see all the fun going on over there!

Happy anniversary, my friends!

Canon week might look like it's done, but we have more than one canon to enjoy.

This week's goal is to wander further into the Dominion of Canada.

Some things you can do:

  • review all that stuff you watched to see more of a beloved face!
  • or watch some more, there's always more
  • of course, create, share and comment on fanworks — they need more eyes on them!

Prompts are optional, and you can interpret the theme however you see fit. Wanna do something else this week or do the C6D thing later? No worries! The AO3 collection is open indefinitely and there are no hard deadlines for participation.

If you want to do your thing in your circle, that's great! If you want others to see it, please link or post it here or over at [community profile] dsvirtualbar. Plus, let me know if you want any of it crossposted or linked at the fest's tumblr blog!

Off we go toward more greatness!

Hope all of you had fun looking back! Now, back to basics.

This week's goal is to embrace the joys of the due South canon.

Some things you can do:

  • meta hour — write some, rec some, join a discussion or start your own!
  • rewatch a scene, an episode, a season, the whole show thrice — and liveblog it! do a group rewatch! take notes and turn them into a research paper!
  • unleash your inner doylist and talk about behind-the-stage shenanigans
  • just talk about why you love it, really!

Prompts are optional, and you can interpret the theme however you see fit. Wanna do something else this week or do the canon thing later?

That's about it!

Woohoo, three weeks done! Thank you for the fun contributions.

This week's goal is to do a little time travel.

Some things you can do:

  • share some of your personal fannish history
  • dive back into older fandom spaces just waiting to be scrolled through (check out the resources!)
  • unearth some old and obscure fanworks
  • dust off your archives. have something hard to find? maybe someone is looking!

Prompts are optional, and you can interpret the theme however you see fit. Wanna do something else this week or do the history thing later?

Safe time travels!

With many apologies, I'm bringing you a very belated reminder about this week's theme. I'm afraid RL has got the better of me this time, but I hope some of you might still wanna do something! As usual, there are no deadlines and no pressure.

This week's goal is to get your shipping goggles on.

Some things you can do:

  • do a throwback and write a ship manifesto
  • share your headcanons and favourite tropes
  • relearn the forgotten art of a fanmix
  • rarepairs? crack ships? unconventional faves? unleash 'em!

Prompts are optional, and you can interpret the theme however you see fit. Wanna do something else this week or do the shipping thing later?

Week one is done, but it doesn't mean the fanwork fun is over! Feel free to continue with it.

This week's goal is to celebrate the show's many characters in any ways you can think of.

Some things you can do:

  • write that character study/meta you keep putting off
  • share canon bits that made you appreciate your darlings
  • give the ensemble cast and one-off faves some love
  • rec some character-focused works
  • and create your own!

Prompts are optional, and you can interpret the theme however you see fit. Wanna do something else this week or do the fanwork thing later?

Let's do it!

And off we go!

This week's goal is to celebrate fan creations in any way you can think of.

Things you can do include but aren't limited to:

  •      comments, comments and more comments
  • recs: creator samplers, themed lists, self-recs—for fic, art, meta, vids, edits and everything else
  • creator shout-outs
  • podfic, remix, translate

of course, new fanworks!

Prompts are optional, and you can interpret the theme however you see fit. Wanna do something else this week or do the fanwork thing later? No worries! The AO3 collection is open indefinitely and there are no hard deadlines for participation.

Heya! The fest starts in a week, on March 11th, with Fanwork Week.

Here's the
info post, and here are all the themes. I also did a resources post on tumblr, if any of you need ideas to get going or a trip down the memory lane!

So! Themes & prompts.
Obviously, new fanworks themselves are welcome and appreciated — here's the AO3 collection you can add them to — but these are ideas for what else you can do.

Most of these must be well-trodden ground for all of you. So feel free to riff on them or do something else entirely. If you can’t make it during your week of choice, post whenever!

So, in honour of dS turning 30 this year, I decided to do a little something. Namely, a celebration fest.

Here's the
tumblr link to the info post, and below is the same info for DW users.

So what is 30 Below?

On April 23rd, 1994, a certain television movie aired in Canada. The rest is 30 years of amazing, rich and lovely history — still going in 2024.

30 below is a fest to celebrate this anniversary, run by[personal profile] flownwrong. Whether you’ve been here from the get-go or just joining the fun — this fest is for you. Let’s spread the love for the wonder that is due South!

info: )

That's about it! I'll crosspost all the announcements here, if that's okay (bear with me, I'm not very good at DW!)

Copied from a post by [personal profile] clarasteam who got it from the ATX Television Festival newsletter (and who notes that screening is at 6 pm CT, and it looks as if the pilot episode will only be available to watch live but the panel discussion will be available afterwards):

Join us on Sunday, October 18th as we revisit one of Canada's most-beloved (and cancelled-too-soon) exports.

We'll start by screening the pilot episode with Writer/Creator/Actor Susan Coyne, Writer/Creator/Producer Bob Martin, and Writer/Creator/Actor Mark McKinney LIVE in the YouTube chat. Normally we don't promote talking during TV, but we'll obviously make an exception!

Following the screening, Susan, Bob, and Mark will be joined by Actors Paul Gross, Martha Burns and Luke Kirby, for a conversation moderated by Emily Nussbaum of The New Yorker. Miss it and we might have to haunt you.

Make sure to tune in on our ATX TV YouTube channel!

Co-mods [personal profile] seleneheart and [personal profile] ride_4ever have made the ds_flashfiction community a 24-7 community: all prompts ever offered are now available all the time and there is no deadline for posting fic.

Hey everyone, after our discussion on comms I contacted both mods and they asked me to find some people more involved currently in the fandom to take over. I’d do it if we absolutely can’t find anyone else, but would like to ask all of you first. The comm is set up, so there’s not really a lot of work involved I think, it should run by itself.

Any takers?

Hey everyone! I love the new influx of people and seeing new comms come into existence! I have been reading a lot because of the recent Tumblr purge and a post talked about how hard it is to get activity going in comms and to keep them alive. We are a tenacious lot here and I am confident we’ll keep the noticeboard going.

But since our fandom is pretty small over here (though probably growing, there’s a new comm imported from Tumblr [community profile] dsvirtualbar) I was thinking what to do with [community profile] ds_flashback. And just, if we should keep comms as broad and open as possible or give them definite uses? Like, noticeboard is for basically everything (links to recs, meta, cons, discussions etc), [community profile] duesouth which has a lot more members (though not much activity) for fanworks and keep [community profile] ds_flashback as an archive of older recs? I have no influence on [community profile] duesouth as helen78 is mod there, and for ds_flashback I am only a comod.
Basically I would like this to be a central gathering place, though I’m not sure it is in reality. I’m trying to see this from a newbie’s perspective, it might be helpful to know where to find what kind of fanstuff? What do you all think?

Late tag is late, sorry everyone. I didn‘t know that for the first two thirds of the year we didn‘t even have a tag for Fraser/RayK fic. It is fixed now and I tagged all untagged entries appropriately.

ETA: I went back through all untagged entries of 2017 and tagged. Ha I knew only three Fraser/RayK fics in that year couldn‘t be right. *g*
mekare: Due South: Fraser bites his lip and listens (Fraser lipbiting)
[personal profile] mekare
So I was browsing through recent Due South tagged entries and found these:

1) a lovely fanart of Fraser, Dief and a cabin in the woods by [tumblr.com profile] onmu

2) some meta notes for 'They Eat Horses, don‘t they?', from a 2018 perspective and talking about the connection to what‘s currently going on in the US.

Excerpt: ~Fraser promises that nothing bad will happen. Something bad has ALREADY happened, in that Ms. G’s son has contracted dangerous food poisoning from tainted meat and incurred the expense of an ambulance ride and hospitalization. But Fraser, having brought her into contact with the justice system, has brought the full terrible force of the racist/apartheid bureaucracy down on Ms. G. You can see the CFS lady later saying completely unironically, “I was just following orders.”
She’s also incredibly judgmental about Ms. G being a single parent, without investigating the context or circumstances of how or why that came about- not that it matters. Whether or not you’re a single parent and why that is are not and should not be the business of the state in any case.
By participating in the system, Fraser, the doctor, and the CFS social worker are all endorsing it to a certain extent. Fraser is the only person who shows any level of awareness that what’s happening is wrong. I have to say, this episode hits like a ton of bricks when you watch it in the modern context of ICE separating families at the border, deportation of DREAMers, etc.

3) Someone has set up a Due South Discord to chat. So far it has 25 members Here‘s the post with the link by [tumblr.com profile] Therealsubobscura
