So I was browsing through recent Due South tagged entries and found these:
1) a lovely fanart of Fraser, Dief and a cabin in the woods by
onmu
2) some meta notes for 'They Eat Horses, don‘t they?', from a 2018 perspective and talking about the connection to what‘s currently going on in the US.
Excerpt: ~Fraser promises that nothing bad will happen. Something bad has ALREADY happened, in that Ms. G’s son has contracted dangerous food poisoning from tainted meat and incurred the expense of an ambulance ride and hospitalization. But Fraser, having brought her into contact with the justice system, has brought the full terrible force of the racist/apartheid bureaucracy down on Ms. G. You can see the CFS lady later saying completely unironically, “I was just following orders.”
She’s also incredibly judgmental about Ms. G being a single parent, without investigating the context or circumstances of how or why that came about- not that it matters. Whether or not you’re a single parent and why that is are not and should not be the business of the state in any case.
By participating in the system, Fraser, the doctor, and the CFS social worker are all endorsing it to a certain extent. Fraser is the only person who shows any level of awareness that what’s happening is wrong. I have to say, this episode hits like a ton of bricks when you watch it in the modern context of ICE separating families at the border, deportation of DREAMers, etc.
