first-time story (mine, not theirs)
Sep. 21st, 2004 07:39 pmSo.
Um.
Late last week, as I sat slogging through my Evidence homework and absently patting the dog, RayK and Fraser emerged from the back room in my brain where they'd been having a high old time and, well, hijacked my fingers.
estrella30, who should probably be canonized, took pity on a newbie and betaed the result at some ungodly hour of the morning (and the revision on her lunch hour - give that girl a Jazz Badge all her own!).
The result can be found on DueSlash. It will also be findable on my LJ in the next hour or so, once I provide a little context for the members of my flist who know not the wonders of slash. Feedback welcome there. (The LJ, not the flist. Gah. Post already.) [ETA: okay, not so much with the "next hour or so" thing, and now the dog and I, we must walk. So, eh, tomorrow for the context.]

No shortage of turtles in Oz!
::thanks you kindly::
Date: 2004-09-21 06:25 pm (UTC)Seriously, thanks. I did no non-dS research whatsoever for this story - I was too busy persuading it not to burst out of my forehead a la Athena from Zeus to be able to control what would otherwise have been nice solid factual details - and it wasn't until I was about to post it that I realized I might actually have created turtles where turtles there were none.
I'll be interested to hear what you think of the story itself, if/when you read it.

Oh, you evil evil crack dealer. Feed me the good stuff, and then leave me hanging. Evil. Eeeeevil.
Seriously, that was beautiful. I loved the little details that put them in the '00's - Google, Fraser in khakis (still a few years behind!). And the nipple ring - I 've long thought Ray would have got a piercing at some stage, but that Fraser asked him... Mmmmm.
I also liked the structure - the setup, the back story and then the cliff-hanger ending. Reeled me in, played me, left me hanging!
It's always nice to find a new author, but a new good author... Made my evening!

So I've heard :-). I'm hoping I get to have that experience some day.
Oh, you evil evil crack dealer. Feed me the good stuff, and then leave me hanging. Evil. Eeeeevil.
Dude: if I fed your jones to the max, I'd lose you as a client, no?
I loved the little details that put them in the '00's - Google, Fraser in khakis (still a few years behind!).
Yeah, and he probably always will be - but I think Ray is avant enough for the both of them. And hey, last we saw Ray he was still wearing khakis, so depending on where Fraser's getting his fashion ideas from this may be a perpetual loop they're trapped in here.
And the nipple ring - I 've long thought Ray would have got a piercing at some stage, but that Fraser asked him... Mmmmm.
So know what you mean about Ray and a nipple ring - he seems so the type, for so many reasons. That was another bit that rather wrote itself, at which point I had to stop and ask myself if I could actually see it happening or if my brain had stuck it in there because it's one of my kinks. Which, yeah, it is, but I could still see it happening. I may write that one one of these days...
It's always nice to find a new author, but a new good author... Made my evening!
And you just made mine :-). You give good crit, ma'am!

Errr, not you,
You know what I like best about this fic? It's the kinkiest F/K I've seen that still manages to stay close within my perception of their characters. Nipple ring? I never woulda thunk it, but here it works.
::settles Crown of Evilness on head, smirking::
Date: 2004-09-21 06:52 pm (UTC)Can't tell you how pleased I am that you like the nipple ring. I don't know why, but the RayK living in my brain had a nipple ring pretty much the minute he walked into the place. I like the nipple ring. Ray likes the nipple ring. Somewhat to my surprise, Fraser (obviously) likes the nipple ring. All of us, however, were a little afraid that no one else would like the nipple ring. Needless to say, being proven wrong on this count is a Very Good Thing.
The RayK living in my brain also likes kink of various sorts, all of which I think of as being mild, although mileages may be varying all over the place on that one. That's what I'm trying to set up with this story, actually.
um.
Date: 2004-09-21 06:39 pm (UTC)Really, I'm sorry. (Well, okay: only sort of really.) This is actually not at all the story I thought I was going to write. That story is something quite different - though not entirely unrelated, being as how it involves RayK and Fraser and coming and stuff. That story arose (arises? will arise? is arising?) from a comment
Really. Ask
I don't suppose I should admit that I've not yet written the next bits (although I do know what at least three of them are going to be)...or that I've got an entirely unconnected PWP in beta for the
::ducks::
By the way, you bear some responsibility for all this, you know: it was your absolutely astonishing fic - first the Sentinel stuff and then dS - that got me going in this universe. ::represses a huge and heartfelt squee in

Wow - the boys and I created a medical miracle! ::high-fives Fraser and RayK::
Ooh. I do love a good beg :-). Definitely, um, incentivizing...
Seriously: so glad you enjoyed it!

Holy shit, darlin'. Did you make that?
If I had the serious AU sort of imagination, I'd write a story around that.

Tell you what, you write me more of this good shit, I make you icons off of any of my bases you like (my icons are here.) *bribes*
If I can live up to my end, it's a deal.
No idea if Fraser POV PWP winds you up at all. If so, I just posted the only other thing I've written so far to
Re: um.
Date: 2004-09-21 08:14 pm (UTC)as a reader, I wanna know I wanna know! As a writer, OTOH, you do well to stop here unless you've got a 100 percent gangbuster thing up your sleeve, which based on this kind of prose you well might! Otherwise, you might want to leave it deliciously vague, much like the suitcase in Pulp Fiction; everyone can then speculate on what the dirty thing IS that could make Fraser sweaty and hard like this.
I will deny this advice in public, of course. *G* But you can't always listen to readers, you know--not even me. *G*)
::is both grateful and confused::
Date: 2004-09-21 08:44 pm (UTC)I do have a fairly clear set of ideas for where this wants to go next. I know what Fraser was looking at, and what Ray plans to do to him when he springs out from behind that door, and the general tenor of the conversation that will almost certainly ensue once both of them have recovered enough breath to speak. I know Ray's got a thing for mild bondage, though not for the deliberate infliction of pain, and that both men are switches (although it's going to take some work on Ray's part to get Fraser to the point where he'll admit that - possibly after he's acted on it). And the story itself contains seeds for at least a couple of other scenes.
What I don't know is whether I can actually make any of these ideas work on the writing front. Muses are notoriously fickle, nu? and certainly the sludgepile of bad slash out there doesn't need augmenting.
Augh.
I will deny this advice in public, of course. *G*
What advice? I didn't hear no steenkin' advice :-).
But you can't always listen to readers, you know--not even me. *G*)
Yeah, but the concept of actually having readers? Awfully addictive...

That's a high compliment, and one by which I am very, very flattered. That the story reads that way to you tells me that I did a decent job of getting the RayK I really love captured - if only briefly - on paper. (I swear to god he was dictating this thing, threatening to kick me in the head if I didn't type faster already. Weird experience.) Makes my day.

hello again :-)
Date: 2004-09-22 11:37 am (UTC)God, "Exposures". That story flat out broke my heart in half. I don't usually read death stories - I spend enough time immersing myself in offline tragedies, like, say, the news - but I read something
Thanks for the encouragement to write more! I certainly hope to...

I fucking loved this fic. (http://members.tripod.com/happyfriendbox/queue.html)
squeee! my very own stalker! squeee!
Date: 2004-09-23 09:34 am (UTC)And, okay, this is weird, but true: reading your comments - the way you contextualized what I'd written, seeing bits of that writing recombined and put into a larger picture - actually turned my crank a bit. Which, hey, pretty cool, I think.
Am running off to Federal Tax now (why does it seem like every time my slash life gets interfered with by my offline life, it's Federal Tax's fault?), but will respond more to commenting later. Meanwhile, I leave you with this: Yay!
