Several people who have posted stories to Exwood have been repeatedly getting spam comments; we've tried a patch or two, but so far, nothing's worked to stop it. Now I'm wondering how widespread the problem is.
If you've had spam comments from the Exwood archive interface, can you drop me a comment or shoot me an email at exwood at hexwood dot com?? (I can also delete those for you!) I'd appreciate it!
Thanks a lot!--and sorry for the inconvenience--

Date: 2006-09-24 07:54 pm (UTC)Oh, sorry. My complaint is: I don't have any stories posted in the archive (we *are* talking about DSA, right?), but. I did post some comments there. After the last one, only days ago, I noticed that the ammount of spam I was receiving increased *yet again*; I'm up to triplicats of the same spam mails now (I only *wish* I was kidding). Oh, I usually leave my email addy with my comments; seems only polite.
My conclusion: a nasty spam-bot is monitoring the site, and snatching email addies, maybe new ones as they appear? I'm not very techically savvy about that. Or sending out spam in lieu of comments? Again, if I had fic posted I'd know more details...
Um, I know the archive is using an older version of The Automated Archive, and that the lastest has some built-in thingy that should stop spam-bots from getting the author's email addies. However, I don't think even that one is protecting the commenter's addies. But it should help with the spam, no? ...Maybe?
I'll end my pointless and pretty clueless babble-fest with the hopes that the spam can be defeated... or at least contain. As I get over 3000 spam emails a week in my old addy, I'm not one for too high hopes. :-/
P.S. the DSA archive is still *the ONE* for me in the fandom, just so you know. :-D
