This community is for the announcing of Due South fiction (yes, you can and should announce your own!), the sharing of Due South news, and the reccing of old or new Due South stories. It's kind of a replacement for the now-defunct ds_flashback rec site (though that site will remain as a resource), and it's kind of competition for the Due South Reporter; hopefully it will be a centralized location for due South fans and posting here will insure that that your stories reach their target audience and that your news and recs reach interested listeners.

Please spread word of this site to due South fans.

Could requesting a rec mean, for example, "Hi, does anybody know of any good BottomFraser BDSM stories they can rec to me? I'm not talking about Fraser being tied to a post, being beaten to within an inch of his life. Just some fun,loving kinky bedroom game type of stuff. Preferably F/K, though I'd certainly take a hot Vecchio story. Thanks."

Just as a random example, of course.

Let's say your in the mood for...Disco Fraser or Glitter Ray...Mmm 'kay bad example, just got an image ;)
Trying again...like, 'Does anyone have a Favorite Fraser/Ray K bondage story they can rec?' As opposed to, 'looking for a specific story involving Ray/Fraser/handcuffs and whatever'.
If not cool, i just didn't want to do something unwelcome and tick anyone off.

That sounds fine to me! And come to think of it, keeping in the spirit of the "noticeboard", it seems reasonable to request or trade zines, trade tapes, etc. I think the idea is--hey, hopefully you'll have the attention of the DS fandom, just don't abuse it or spam it, you know? I say, go for it and if issues come up, I'll moderate when the time arrives.

I'm new to lj so please be patient. If I want to rec something, do I join the community, make my rec and then unjoin? If I don't unjoin won't my journal entries be shown here?

No, your entries will NOT be shown here! What joining the community means is that--okay. When you post to your own journal? On the update journal page? beneath the box you type in is a link that says, For More Options, Click here. And if you do, you'll get more options. And one of those options is WHAT journal to post in--you can post to your own, obviously, but if you're a member of a community you can also direct a SPECIFIC post to that community's journal. And the comments you get on that entry then come back to you.

Does that make sense? If you're not a member of any community right now, you may have only one "Journal to post in"--but that will become a drop down menu when you belong to communities.

I wanted to say thanks. I love the idea of a central meeting place for DS fandom, of being able to ask questions, share ideas and information. I happened upon Due South while reading Firefly porn on Tenth Muse's site, which had a link to Bindlestitch. I've been lurking for about a year now, devouring fic like a rabid animal, and have only recently unshy-ied enough to comment on stories. I have ideas for my own stories, but feel a bit hindered by *never having seen a single episode of the show.* (After I finish moving and am working full-time again I *will* get those DVD's. Maybe season three will be out by then.) I'd certainly like a way to be more interactive in the fandom.

Please excuse my woeful ignorance, but could you explain more about what it means to join the community? I know nothing of these things since I (obviously) don't have a live journal of my own and still have a lot to learn about the internet (what *is* a blog?) Would I have to be a live journal user? How do you get a live journal? If I get a live journal could I get one of those nifty icons the rest of you have? Huh, huh, could I, could I?

Okay. First of all, yes, get a livejournal, they're free, and then yes, you can have cool icons too! Go http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=104 and read the FAQ, then click on the link and sign up. As I say, easy and free.

Once you have a lj, you can "friend" people--i.e. put them on your reading list--and join communities. If you go here: http://www.livejournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=ds_noticeboard and look at the user page, you'll see a bunch of links that you can use once you have a livejournal and are logged into it--you can click where it says To join this community, click here, or you can click on that little box that looks like a person--that's the friending, i.e. read only, box.

Once you have your own LJ, you can post as yourself in your own journal with your name on it, but you will also be able to post to the communties you've joined by choosing them from a drop down menu of your update page. Being as you don't have a LJ, this will be hard to explain right now, so once you have a LJ--actually, once you have a LJ, read this here (I've already explained it to someone else): http://www.livejournal.com/community/ds_noticeboard/263.html?thread=3335#t3335
