[identity profile] chuckjd.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] ds_noticeboard
I've been converting a friend of mine for a while now to the goodness of all things dueSouth. It's been slow going, and we're leaving college in a matter of days hours. We're gotten through disk one of Season 1, but I want her to get a taste of RayK before we part for the next few months (we'll see eachother over the summer sometime and we're roommate next semester, so I'll still get her to watch everything *devious*) and I'm unsure as to which episode to show her.

I was thinking about "Asylum" because it showcases RayK (and his ghey), Canadian humor, Curling, Turnbull, and Fraser with handcuffs and smartassed comments. I have to say that it's got the lead so far.

My favorite episodes are all the big ones and the two parters, but I don't want to have them ruined right away with no previous knowledge or buildup.

So, I come to you all for help. What should I do?

PS. It's for tonight :X

I always think of Mountie and Soul as being a showcase for RayK type stuff - it depends whether you want to emphasise RayK, or just show an 'typical' episode (is there such a thing?) with the normal Fraser-Ray interactions (I Coulda Been a Defendent or Seeing is Believing might be good examples of those).

If the double-episodes weren't excluded, I would say Mounty on the Bounty..as that is my answer to any question like this.

I usually show "Burning Down the House" first because it's Fraser and the audience's introduction to RayK. And when he's on the phone and winks at Fraser kills me everytime. Plus you get the consulate with Thatcher and Turnbull. You get a little bit of Elaine, Frannie, Huey, Dewey, Walsh. Dief licking Ray's ear. *sigh*

I would have thought if she's never seen RayK you'd have been better off going with Burning Down the House. It does explain why RayK is there instead of the real Ray Vecchio after all. But of course if I were introducing someone to Due South, I'd probably just stick with the order the shows were broadcast(ie show the whole of series one and then move on), but hey that's just me *G*

Burning down the house at first, I think. Odds is a great one too ...

When I was first pimped dS (best. day. ever.), I was shown Burning Down The House first, followed immediately by Mountie on the Bounty. Obviously, it worked extremely well. *g*

I agree with showing BDtH first, and I also agree with showing Asylum - for Fraser/RayK, it's perfect. :D I Coulda Been a Defendant is a great one for RayK as well, of course, but Asylum really does have it all.

If you have time, show Dead Men Don't Throw Rice. Just because. :)
