I have a request-

I'm relatively new to Due South, having just got sucked into the fandom this spring.

One of the authors I really enjoy is [livejournal.com profile] aukestral. Unfortunately, her fic page is under password lock, and she is not accepting new password requests.

Which is fine.

But I really like the stories.

So, does anybody have a list of the links to them at public archives? I just stumbled across a terrific one where RayK/Fraser were having sex and talking maths, curtosey of the old DS Reqs group.

Or even just an idea of how many stories I should look for?

If this is innapropriate, please feel free to delete. I have no interest in stalking, just in reading some good fic.

Twelve of her stories are on the archive Due Slash here (http://www.dueslash.com/db.cgi?db=db&uid=default&id=&userid=&Date=&Title=&Author=aukestrel&Pairing=---&Pairing2=---&Pairing3=---&Rating=---&Category=---&Type=---&Status=---&Status2=&keyword=&mh=25&sb=---&so=ascend&view_records=Search). It's not everything she's written, but you might find something you haven't seen.

There are 11 of her stories on the exwood archve here (http://www.squidge.org/dsa/cgi-bin/search.cgi?Author=AuKestrel&SortBy=3&SortOrder=1&NumToList=0). I don't know if they're all the same as the ones on due Slash or if there are some differences, but it's worth checking out.

Yeah, I wish she was taking new password requests. She has this WiP AU called "Strange Loops" that I've wanted to read forever, but it's only up on her website. Oh well.

me too! I keep hearing about it, and it sounds really interesting and I WISH I could get to read it (I think it's one of a pair of stories???). Would aukestral maybe allow people to see individual stories somehow, without necessarily involving access to the website? wishful thinking ....

Yeah. Maybe if someone had it saved on their computer they could e-mail it, but I don't know enough people around here to know whom to ask.

It's possible that if you wrote for a password and spelled it "aukestral" it never got to me.

I can be reached at aukestrel (at) gmail d0t com.

Oh! I just came online and saw this - er - emailing you now!!! (tips virtual hat, and inclines head respectfully re RL - as you say, children (idem), cats (1 dog, a GSD originally believed by all inc. vet to be deaf .... all similarities to Diefenbaker end there, unfortunately, though she has many redeeming qualities) and boss from hell (self-employed, so not that one - though of course there's always the taxman ...) - BUT YOU WRITE and so damn well ... eppur si muove, or rather si scrive, for which we are all profoundly grateful.

Strange Loops was one of the greatest AUs ever (and I love AUs as a rule), because she found a way to distill everything that was appealing about Ray Kowalski down to its pure form. Unfortunately, her inspiration seems to have petered out on the story (and on DS writing in general) some time ago.

One of the sad things about following all this slash writing on the internet is that some of your favorite writers lose interest or inspiration or simply don't have the time anymore. Fortunately, new ones come along. DS has kept going strong long after the show ended--better I think than any other fandom.

I don't think it's necessarily the internet, although it was probably more difficult to lose track of people or of people's stories in most fanzines, esp. if the stories were posted all together. At any rate, I recently finished a story that was somewhat dS related and the kindness and support I've gotten from some of the people around me has gotten me to look at the AU again.

However, I am a hellish writer to work with and the AU seems to take that hellishness to the tenth power because the plot is so convoluted. If I don't have someone who is really interested in bouncing ideas, all I can write are connecty bits.

These are the lessons I have learned in the past few years. How's that for self awareness?

Why not ask her for a password? I asked, nicely (yes, I'm capable thereof *eg*), a little while ago, and got it -- it took a while for her to answer, but I respect people who have a real life outside fandom *g*

And thank you for that. I actually do have a life outside fandom, including children, cats, and a boss from hell. I also notice that most people misspell my name and thus my domain name... hence email goes astray forever and ever and I will never know.

Heh, oh, I get exactly where you come from. Well, I don't have all those problem, my boss if sweet and I don't have any kids *g*. But most of my online friends are working mothers, so I'm used to not hearing from people regularly. And as for email, amen to that. If it's not misspelled, it gets stuck in a spamfilter somewhere -- yay for the joys and headaches of modern technology.

And I saw in one of the other posts, that you're considering working on the AU again... can only squee to that -- reminds me, I don't think I ever wrote you fb on that -- gotta go re-read and do so *g*
