They all three stepped closer and Fraser smiled in approval. ″Excellent choice. I’ll cut it and you and Ray can secure it on the sled for transport.″
Ray wanted to shout Hallelujah! They’d been traipsing through the snowy woods all morning freezing their skinny asses off. They’d found the perfect tree for Aggie and then delivered it. It took both Fraser and himself nearly an hour to get it set up and put into place. There’s no way Aggie could’ve managed on her own. She said she’d decorate it later and then served them hot chocolate. Ray had to admit it was a hell of a great drink, but he just wanted to get their own tree and go home. He wasn’t as young as he used to be and his achy bones were letting him know by complaining big time. Ray was more than ready to get the thing cut down and home, so he blurted out, ″Finally!″
Fraser grinned. Ray had no doubt that his partner knew he’d grown impatient with the whole cut your own tree routine about an hour earlier. ″Ray, one must take time to get the perfect tree for the occasion. We only have Christmas once a year.″
″That’s right. Mom and I would take hours to pick just the right one. It’s one of the best parts of the whole holiday.″
Ray reined in his attitude and went with it. Both Fraser and Bo were right. It really wasn’t about the tree, but the time they spent together as a family. ″Then pitter patter. There are cookies waiting to be scarfed down. You think this is the best one, then I’m in. Get whacking at it. I’m freezing my ass off out here.″
Fraser tutted. ″No cookies until after lunch.″
Ray gave a toothy grin as a challenge. ″Says who?″
Bo watched them both and shook his head in amusement. ″Focus you two. We’ve got a tree to cut.″
Ray reached down and then rolled up a snowball. ″Bossy much?″ Then he tossed it at the boy who dodged it easily.
Bo giggled and made his own snowball. He aimed it at Ray who jumped behind Fraser. It hit Fraser right in the middle of his chest. Fraser faked his complaint. ″Very mature.″
Ray and Bo exchanged glances before both gathered snow to take another shot. Fraser got lambasted by both, but then grinned. ″Is this a challenge?″
Ray taunted him playfully as Bo started making icy ammo. ″Two against one. Seems about right, Mr. Mountie.″
Fraser eyes narrowed and then he proceeded to make snowballs so fast that Ray had to shake his head in amazement. His partner was like a miracle man when it came to doing anything, even making a mountain of icy cannonballs. Then he shouted a quick warning to Bo. ″Duck and run, Kid! We’re going to get hammered!″
