Hallo again! Just posted another fic in my LJ -- it's around 44 K, so it's longish again.

Title: Wrangling With Probability
Category: Um. Gennish, I guess, but I suppose you could read in some F/K pre-slash if you wanted to.
Warnings: gen, angst, violence, swearing(oh no!)
Rating: Maybe R, for language and bloodiness.
Summary: A series of post-CotW vignettes, bookended by non-vignettes that provide plot-line to tie the vignettes together with. (At least, I'm pretty sure they're vignettes -- say something if you've got a better word for them.)

Wrangling With Probability

Comments, critical or not, are appreciated. Also, a beta would really be very nice. *g*

Wow. Just read your flashfiction story, and am smiling madly. And then I refreshed my friends page - and there's another story! Downloading it to read later, but I'm loking forward to it.

I love Fraser-in-hospital so this is just peachy. Not much need of beta'ing either, I detected maybe a typo or 2. Never seen COTW? It always freaks me how many duesers there are that haven't seen stuff. Anyway, enjoyed that. Nice angst.

Why just Fraser? Um, aw, shuffles toe on the ground, just sort of like bashing the Mountie. Also like deathfic. Nothing wrong with others of the boys getting bashed but it's just that much sexier if it is the Mountie.

Nice ta meecha.

I read that when you first put it out. Didn't fb, though.

I'm not so surprised that you didn't get a lot of commentary. These days around the due-niverse most of the fb is going to F/K slash (oh, fuck me,Ray . . . gag me). I hope the snide-ness is coming through. I tolerate slash if it is really well written but mostly I find it boring.

But back to your fic, I read it over perhaps a little more quickly than if it had been Fraser - snuffing. There are very few stories about blondie in which I actually care what happens to him. He just doesn't butter my muffin. I do find him an interesting character to write because his weaknesses are just so obvious and easy to play with.

Anyway, I do remember thinking to myself when I read your piece that you left off while blondie was still breathing so technically it's a "near-death" fic, I guess, although you make it clear he's on the brink of snuffing it.

I also remember musing whether I would have had Fraser approve heroic measures or not. I'm not sure even now which direction I would go with that if I were writing that scenario.

I confess I also found it kind of cute at the time when you said it was your first fic because, hee hee, in my first fic I killed off Fraser of bone cancer. Since then in my fic career I have gone on to kill him by explosion, avalanche, and had Ray shoot him dead in an alternate ending to VS.

Funny thing, I had thought in my innocence that a gazillion people must have ficced that scenario of Ray killing him instead of his surviving. In fact I was hesitant to write it. It just seemed so obvious. But when I went looking for it on exwood and other archives I just didn't see it. So I went ahead and ficced it because it was always bugging me. I think to this day it is one of my better ones. The thing is, I guess, that few people really do like to write deathfic. Many also avoid reading it. We ghouls have to stick together. Sorry for not fb'ing the last one.

Oh dear, I have gone on and on. I'll shut up now.
