mergatrude sent me here to add my 2 cents', but actually I don't think I can come up with a better explanation than I did here:

I was in the fandom from August 2004 to the end of 2009, and in that time I wrote a ton of fic, modded challenges and comms, and most importantly, met many many awesome, awesome people and learned a lot about being in fandom. I don't participate anymore, but I still use my DS icons fairly often. That's something, right?
