ds_noticeboard | Fandom Movie Night (IRC instructions)

Hey all! Here's a quick tutorial on how to use IRC if you would like to join us but are unfamiliar with the program.

First, you can download it for free, here:

Any one of those should work fine, and it's not a very big program so those with dialup can get it pretty quickly.

1. Install and run the program following the prompts.
2. A dialogue box should appear that allows you to enter: "Full Name", "E-Mail Address", "Nickname", and "Alternative" (should your first choice be taken). Fill these out with whatever you want, but you might want to use a 'fake' e-mail address or set your options in a way that does not allow just anybody on IRC to see it.
2b. If you are automatically logged onto a server or a chatroom upon starting the program, no fears there's still an easy way to get to where you're going - just skip straight to step 5 :)
3. After you have done this press "OK". If there is an "invsible mode" check box, make sure it is UNCHECKED before pressing OK.
4. This should close the dialogue box and leave you with a window labeled "Status", followed by some information such as your Nickname, a default server, or a port number. Don't worry if you find yourself in a different window, you can join any server/room from any window in IRC.
5. There should be a space at the bottom of the "Status" window in which you can enter text. In this textbox type: "/server squidge.org" without the quotes, then press "enter". This should log you onto the correct server, a bunch of text will scroll through the window, wait for it to stop before you move onto the next step.
6. Once the text has stopped, that means you have been connected. Next, type: "/join #movienight" without the quotes to join the right room.
7. Then yay! There you are! :)
