Hey all!  I just wanted to remind those who are looking for inspiration for their next project, or who enjoy riffing off of others' ideas, to check out the DS/C6D Prompt Meme!  As is the way of such things, it's been easier to get people excited about leaving prompts than filling them, but I'm still hopeful that we can get that snowball rolling.  And all you folks who have recently started dipping your toes in the waters of making DS fanworks: come on over and play!

We've got 47 prompts posted, so far, in: Due South, Slings & Arrows, Twitch City, Bomb Girls, ReGenesis, Durham County, Flashpoint, RPF, Californication, Eastwick, and Shattered (including a number of crossovers).  Many of them gen, some sex-related.  Largely fic so far, but some for vids and art, too.  Something for everybody!

We have ONE glorious prompt fill so far.  Will yours be number two?  Fill a prompt, spread the love. :)

so many wonderful ideas!

of course, the one prompt i was inspired by (Trucker!Ray), you've already claimed (it's ok!) -- but really my "inspiration" was limited to Ray becoming BFFs with Lisa from Ice Road Truckers, and they bleach their hair together and have girltalk, and Lisa calls Ray her "gay best friend" which makes Ray have to come to terms with his sexuality and the reason he came to Canada in the first place...

but beyond that scene i'm totally stumped. go for it! i so want to see what happens.

(and i'll keep checking the prompts list for another spark of inspiration)

People are totally encouraged to fill prompts that other people have claimed/filled -- and in the case of the trucker prompt, I'm only going to fill it veeery sloooowly, so please don't let my "claim" stop you from writing to that prompt if you feel inspired. I mostly put it there as a promise to myself that I'm actually going to write that thing I outlined, someday. :)

Come to that (and speaking as one writer-who-tends-to-write-long to another :) ), I don't see why you couldn't have a story that's pretty much just the Lisa&Ray stuff you describe -- with a little exposition as to how Ray got there, and ending with Ray's self-realization and thoughts about what that means for his future goals/plans with respect to Fraser. (Without actually writing out what happens next.) I think that could make a very satisfying story and not feel like the open ending was gypping the reader in any way.

*facepalm* Okay, I knew I was talking to you rather than to deputychairman when I sat down to write that comment, but then somehow I got distracted and conflated the two comment threads in my mind -- I have no idea if you are a fellow tends-to-write-long-er or not, or if you have written more than the one DS fic I've read of yours on AO3. Anyway, I still mean the rest of the comment, please pardon my humidity-induced spaciness there. :)

i tend to get struck by teeny tiny ideas, and then have no idea how to connect them to anything else.

but maybe teeny tiny ideas are just fine on their own!

One thing I've really enjoyed about this whole fanfic-writing lark is it's given me a great opportunity to practice writing short!

I have nothing to add but my incoherent delight that this exists. I'm a very slow writer but I'll keep checking in and see if anything grabs me!

Yeah, it takes far longer to write a fic or make art than to drop off a prompt, that's why it's been so much easier to populate the community with prompts than to get fanworks in there. But I live in hope! (And might even contribute an actual fic. Just as soon as I dig myself out of this here hole of projects with deadlines. Yeah. :) )
