Interest Check: DS landcomm??
May. 3rd, 2013 11:14 pmHello everyone!
My friend
theron09 and I are considering starting a landcomm for Due South, and we were wondering if there would be enough interest for us to do so? Another possibility would be a summer fic exchange or prompt fest, so please comment if you'd want to take part in any of these!
(I hope I'm allowed to do this here, mods, please let me know if not!)

Date: 2013-05-03 10:32 pm (UTC)A land comm is a community where people join teams and are given challenges - fics, graphics or puzzles and such the like. They work to complete the challenges and gain points for themselves and their teams. One example of this for another fandom is

Date: 2013-05-04 02:29 pm (UTC)I've only been around for a year and a half and I only participate in a tiny little corner of fandom (mostly here and on AO3), but with that context for my opinion:
My impression is that this corner of DS fandom is a smallish group of people who are enthusiastic but don't have infinite time. So any comm/challenge/project is pulling on more or less the same core group of people and there's only so many person-hours to spread around. So it can be hard to predict if there's critical mass for a cool new thing, particularly if its an ongoing thing rather than a oneshot. On the other hand, structure and deadlines seem to be good motivators 'round here. And we like cool things!
There are a couple of challenges going on right now that many of the usual suspects are involved in, for example, the DS/C6D Big Bang and the DS/C6D AU Challenge. There's also been some efforts lately to increase the action over at DS/C6D Snippets.
As far as gift exchanges, traditionally -- and I think there are plans to continue the tradition -- we've done a Midsummer C6D exchange and a December Due South Seekrit Santa. Lately those have both had moderate turnout, with the Midsummer being (unsurprisingly) smaller. I don't know whether people would want to do a DS summer exchange in addition to or instead of the Midsummer. (Personally I'd be sad if a DS exchange caused Midsummer to go extinct, but on the other hand I like gift exchanges. But that's just me.)
I've lately been trying to get a DS/C6D Prompt Meme running, so far with limited success. (But I think the problems are mostly due to a) people prompting for small fandoms that not many people can fill, and b) no structure/deadlines. A DS prompt fest wouldn't have either of those issues.) If you do decide to run a prompt fest, would you be interested in putting your head together with me to see if we can synergize, and maybe use the prompt fest to help drum up ongoing business for the Meme?
