Silly technical question I've been meaning to ask someone for ages, and your post reminds me: how does one get a link to an AO3 handle to show up with the AO3 icon/format like you've got here? And, conversely, in AO3, how does one get a link to an LJ account/community to show up with the LJ icon/format?

Okay, what I did was I went to my story on AO3 and clicked the "Share" button at the top of the page. That generated the code for what I posted -- I deleted the Chapters line -- and I just pasted it into the post form. Super-zippy way to post a header & link!

But! In Dreamwidth, you can just type [user name="user" site="archiveofourown.org"], and it will automatically insert the AO3 icon in front of the user name. LJ doesn't support that feature, though.

Getting the user icons from LJ/DW to post on AO3 requires getting the code for them, but I'm not sure how much of the source code is actually needed? (I tend to be lazy and just go with unformatted names.) Maybe someone can help us out with that.

Cool, and thanks for the additional tip about the "share" feature, which I did not know about.

I usually post stories first at my DW, and then import them to AO3. And then if I have LJ/DW user names (as beta credit, for example) the importer will make them show up properly. Otherwise, if you go to someone's DW profile page, at the bottom there's a box where you can copy the code for showing a DW name properly.

Aha! More AO3 features I have not explored! That definitely sounds like something I should be using (at least for my fan-flashworks stuff; things I don't post to comms come straight off my computer into AO3). Thanks!

You get to the import feature by clicking "post new" and then at the top of the posting form there's a link saying "import from existing work instead?" or something like that. : )
