5 things I love about Harding Welsh
Date: 2011-10-07 09:38 pm (UTC)2) His gruffness. Someone has got to keep these cops (and the Mountie, and the half-deaf half-wolf) in line. And they need him to do it, 'cause the guys need to know their footing's on solid ground.
3) His constancy. His persistent solidity, if you will. The guys know that Welsh has got their back, whatever mess they get into. Sure, he's got superiors he's got to answer to as well, but he'll always back them up if he can, even if it might be a risk to himself. This is a man who followed Fraser and Ray Kowalski to Canada - in a ship - to back them up in a case.
4) His earthy facility with the English language. Harding Welsh can make a hardened detective squirm like an errant schoolkid in 30 seconds or less, without ever resorting to yelling or swearing. Listening to Welsh dress down one of his detectives fills me with glee. It's poetry, is what it is.
5) His kindness. Any other precinct, Francesca Vecchio would have been sacked long ago. Instead, by the last episode she's calling Welsh by his first name, and asking his advice about the Chicago police academy.
Edit AGAIN! Aarrrgh, sorry, typos!

Date: 2011-10-08 01:28 pm (UTC)5 Things I love about Dead!Bob
Date: 2011-10-08 12:35 am (UTC)1. The way he and Buck reminisce together in All the Queen's Horses and COTW.
2. The way that he has SO MUCH character development from the Pilot all the way to COTW. He goes from being The Dead Father to a sort of buffoonish ghost to being as close to a belatedly Good Dad as possible. It makes me so freaking FOND.
3. The writing of his journals, which is lovely, and that when he says, "I wrote to your mother every day," he's talking about his journals. It gives me this gorgeous image of him dropping in for a week between patrols and handing over the newest book he's filled up thinking of her, and her reading it at night by the fire once he'd gone away again.
4. That he forgets Fraser was born in a barn. That never fails to make me laugh.
5. That the longest he and Caroline spent together were the four months in the igloo where Fraser was conceived. After Bob had accidentally burned down their cabin. On one hand I'm all, 'Dude! FIND another cabin! There are abandoned miner's cabins all over the place!!' And on the other, I'm struck by the idea of, 'This is ridiculous. Let's do it!'
