[personal profile] sage posting in [community profile] ds_noticeboard
Welcome to [livejournal.com profile] ds_noticeboard's Homecoming & Canadian Thanksgiving Fest! I'm so glad you're here! This little party is lasting ALL WEEKEND, so keep an eye on these posts, plus the Ficlet & Icon-set mini-exchange posts, which will be going up throughout the weekend.

For a lot of us, Due South was one of our first fannish loves, at least in terms of having an online community to share that love and creative passion with. Some of us have a great deal of history together, and others are brand new to this little corner of fandom, so if you can, please take a little time to answer the meme below & get acquainted!

Rules:
The only real rule is for everyone to please respect ALL characters, pairings, & moresomes. We want to create a safe space here for ALL CHARACTER LOVE.

Love Zone

Okay! So now it's time for the Fandom Introductions Meme!

1. Introduce yourself! How long have you been in DS and/or C6D fandom? How did you discover us?

2. What are your favorite DS eps and/or C6D media?

3. Who are your favorite characters? Pairings/moresomes?

4. Do you create fanworks of any stripe? Feel free to link us to your work!

5. Pimp a community, a project, a creator, or something else related to DS/C6D fandom.

6. Tell us something else about you!

YAY!!! More posts, coming up soon! Also! Happy Ada Lovelace Day! Kudos to all women in tech, many of whom have made fandom as we know it possible. <3

1. How long have you been in DS and/or C6D fandom?

Ha, I think that depends how you define "in" the fandom. I was very active from 2006-2009, then life got crazy. (I changed careers, broke up with my fiance, and moved to a new country). I'm trying to ease back into fandom a bit by taking on new challenges and rewatching due South on Netflix. (Can you believe it? I actually left my dS DVDs back in Canada! *sob*)

Being a part of the due South fandom was one of the best parts of my life, and I'm looking forward to meeting all of the new folks who've joined the fandom since I went silent.

How did you discover us?
I'd watched dS back when it originally aired on Canadian TV in the mid-'90s, but only up to "Victoria's Secret". I stopped watching after that episode, and I thought Fraser had died! Happily I rediscovered the show and found that nope, he'd survived being shot and went on to find a new partner. After that it was a simple matter of doing a web search for dS fanfiction (I started with Fraser/Vecchio) and my love blossomed from there.

2. What are your favorite DS eps and/or C6D media?
Sage, you are a cruel, cruel woman! What a tough question. Well, I loved "Victoria's Secret", like everyone else, even though it broke my heart. Other favs include "Gift of the Wheelman" (my two favorite things combined: Christmas and tragedy!), "The Man Who Knew Too Little" (dS at its comedic best), "Juliet is Bleeding" (Vecchio was never so tragic, nor so sexy), "The Ladies Man" (Kowalski's turn to be tragic and sexy), "Say Amen" (great acting by Paul Gross and a more focused storyline than the typical ep) and "Call of the Wild" (just because).

I'm a huge fan of Wilby Wonderful (Duck/Dan is the pairing of my heart) and I loved Slings and Arrows.

3. Who are your favorite characters? Pairings/moresomes?
I'm a Fraser girl, all the way. And yes, it's probably because I identify with Big Red, being a northern Canadian/American transplant myself. My preferred pairing is Fraser/Kowalski because I find them to be a sexy, complicated hot mess worth picking apart, but I definitely dig Fraser/Vecchio, Ray/Ray and even Fraser/Kowalski/Vecchio. What can I say? I'm easy.

4. Do you create fanworks of any stripe? Feel free to link us to your work!

All 47 of my due South stories, as well as my Wilby Wonderful fic and links to the podfic I've recorded can be found over at [livejournal.com profile] fic_by_nos. My stories tend to be a little on the angsty side (but with happy endings!) and they feature a lot of landscape description. Also penises.

5. Pimp a community, a project, a creator, or something else related to DS/C6D fandom.

Some folks I consider damn fine dS writers and very good friends: [livejournal.com profile] secretlybronte, [livejournal.com profile] ignazwisdom, [livejournal.com profile] dessert_first [livejournal.com profile] arrow00, [livejournal.com profile] j_s_cavalcante, [livejournal.com profile] sageness (of course! ♥), [livejournal.com profile] akamine_chan, and the usual suspects like [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza, Kat Allen and [livejournal.com profile] pearl_o.

6. Tell us something else about you!
I'm a Vision Rehabilitation Therapist, which means I teach blind and visually-impaired folks how to resume their lives after they've lost their vision. Some of what I teach includes cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, Braille, keyboarding and computer use, and money management.

If you need some technical expertise on a story that involves blindness, feel free to ask me anything and I'll be sure to dig up an answer for you!

Duck/Dan FTW!

Heehee!

I have to say I love your fics, Nos! I joined fandom late and was all weird about whether or not to leave comments on 5 or 10 year old fics and I don't think I've ever told you how much I dig your writing before. I'm totally planning on pimping Swimming with the Sharks on crack-van this month. =)

1. Introduce yourself! How long have you been in DS and/or C6D fandom? How did you discover us?

Hi, all! I'm [livejournal.com profile] musegaarid and I've been on the outskirts of the dS fandom for... 3 years? Maybe? Something like that.

I discovered the show in an appropriately odd way. The short version is that I ran into [livejournal.com profile] innocentsmith at the Peppermill Fireside Lounge in Las Vegas. Over brandy alexanders, she spent most of the evening telling me about dS, while I was going, wait, what? There's two guys named Ray who are different guys, but one is pretending to be the other one, but not in the way that sitcoms switch out different actors for the same part?? She just grinned at me. A couple months later, the pilot episode arrived from Netflix.

2. What are your favorite DS eps and/or C6D media?

Hawk and a Handwaw, Vault, and Seeing is Believing are probably my favorite episodes. I like the fluffy ones.

3. Who are your favorite characters? Pairings/moresomes?

Fraser is my favorite character, for sure. I relate. In a pairing, I'd put him with RayK or both Rays, but can't quite see him with RayV alone. Still, as you say, ALL CHARACTER LOVE! Also, yay, Dief and Bob!

4. Do you create fanworks of any stripe? Feel free to link us to your work!

I've made a fanvid and written three fanfics for dS! (Plus a crossover with Supernatural.) You can find them here (http://musegaarid.livejournal.com/13371.html#cutid2). I definitely tend toward magical realism, fluffiness, and a PG-13 rating in this fandom.

5. Pimp a community, a project, a creator, or something else related to DS/C6D fandom.

I am sad that [livejournal.com profile] ds_flashfiction has died. :( But another shout out to [livejournal.com profile] innocentsmith! That lady is a pretty amazing ambassador for dS. Also, [livejournal.com profile] j_s_cavalcante, your fics and art rock my world. Any hope of ever seeing more from your art history professor 'verse? ♥

6. Tell us something else about you!

I once rode a mechanical bull. It's something I can see Fraser doing. ;)

Oh my gosh, that's an AWESOME how-I-got-in-to-fandom story!

I adore your No Such Thing As Coincidence! I'm totally bookmarking your ficlist so I can read the rest. =)

And a very loud SECOND to your cries for more of Art!History!RayK and Lit!Professor!Fraser from JS Cavalcante. I am SO in love with those two. In fact, it was that fic that first made me break out of my lurky lurker ways and leave a comment on something in this fandom. =)

1. Introduce yourself! How long have you been in DS and/or C6D fandom? How did you discover us?
Howdy! I'm Hazel. I've only been in dS fandom a little while. I finally watched dS maybe 2.5-3 years ago because a RL friend mailed me the DVDs, but I found fandom immediately because one of my online friends from Doctor Who was a big Due South fan too. At first I was a lurky lurker, devouring all the old fic but not really participating, but I've been more engaged in fandom this year, writing for the big bang and over on dS snippets.

2. What are your favorite DS eps and/or C6D media?
Oooh, hard question. Lots of answers. Um, for dS, I love Ladies Man, Mountie on the Bounty, and Victoria's Secret best, but I also really like Juliet Is Bleeding, Call of the Wild, Eclipse, and Red White and Blue.

I love many, MANY things c6d. My absolute favorites are probably Wilby Wonderful, Flashpoint, and Hard Core Logo. I also love S&A, BSG, Harper's Island, and Gunless. Oh, and Eastwick. I have a total guilty-pleasure thing about Eastwick.

3. Who are your favorite characters? Pairings/moresomes?
Ray K is my favorite Due South character. I ship F/K and F/K/V. I also love Dief and/or Turtle-centric fics. Beyond dS, I adore Duck from Wilby and ship Duck/Dan. I love everyone on Flashpoint, especially Greg and Eddie. I love Newbie from Twitch City and Geoffrey from S&A.

4. Do you create fanworks of any stripe? Feel free to link us to your work!
Wow, this year I actually get to say I'm a writer on one of these things. Hee! My AO3 (http://archiveofourown.org/users/hazelwho/pseuds/hazelwho/works)

5. Pimp a community, a project, a creator, or something else related to DS/C6D fandom.
Oooh, I'd like to take this space to pimp [livejournal.com profile] helpsomalia, a fandom-wide charity auction for Somalia. It closes tomorrow and there are several dS fen offering words, art and audios.

6. Tell us something else about you!
I am hell-bent on seeing the Headstones this winter.

1. Introduce yourself! How long have you been in DS and/or C6D fandom? How did you discover us? Greetings. I go by Howie in these parts. I watched due South when I was in 6th grade, back when it was airing on TNT. I had not yet discovered the wonder that is fanfiction, and in truth, I probably wasn't prepared for it back then. ;) I bought seasons 1 and 2 back in 2005 or so, but I didn't get around to getting season 3 until 2009. Then, it finally occurred to me to look for fanfic and I read like mad for about a year in all sorts of different places before finally looking up dS communities here, where I also ended up discovering C6D. So I've been here, on the outskirts, for a year or so.

2. What are your favorite DS eps and/or C6D media?
Favorite DS eps - Victoria's Secret (part 1 & 2), The Gift of the Wheelman, Odds, and The Deal. And of course, Mountie on the Bounty and Call of the Wild have those wonderful shippy moments their merits.
Favorite other C6D - Hard Core Logo and Flashpoint <3333

3. Who are your favorite characters? Pairings/moresomes?
Favorite characters - Fraser, Ray Vecchio, Ray Kowalski, Bob, Dief, Elaine, Welsh
Favorite pairing - Fraser/RayK. However, I have kind of gotten into Ray/Ray as well.

4. Do you create fanworks of any stripe? Feel free to link us to your work!
I've made one dS vid (http://how-obscure.livejournal.com/169965.html#cutid1) and one HCL vid (http://how-obscure.livejournal.com/tag/fanvid%3A%20hard%20core%20logo) (my first vids ever) and a few dS snippety things (http://how-obscure.livejournal.com/tag/fanfic%3A%20due%20south). I seem to have not posted two of my snippets over here on LJ so, for now, they can be found on DW, here (http://how-obscure.dreamwidth.org/tag/fanfic:+organizational+post).

5. Pimp a community, a project, a creator, or something else related to DS/C6D fandom.

\Flashpoint!/ Are you going to be at the Resumed Rewatch this Sunday? I'm unreasonably excited about it. This weekend is fangirl crack for me, and I'm going to have a rough crash on Monday, but I'm going to ride the high as long as it lasts.

I love that HCL vid you did. I've got it bookmarked and have rewatched it several times since Easter. =)

Eastwick - SO much ridiculousness! Man, I love it. =)

Awesome Halloween costume. What color are you doing your/her hair?

1. Introduce yourself! How long have you been in DS and/or C6D fandom? How did you discover us?
I've been in the fandom for about 2 1/2 years now. I'd been hearing about DS for years, and one day the library had it in, and I gave it a shot. I fell in love instantly, and shot through it all, and then started on Slings & Arrows. I've watched some of the other C6D media, but never got sucked into any of them in quite the same way.

2. What are your favorite DS eps and/or C6D media?
Oh man, there are so many. The Pilot, The Gift of the Wheelman, The Deal, Bird in the Hand, Burning Down the House, Mountie on the Bounty, The Ladies Man, Good for the Soul, Call of the Wild. I love every single episode of Slings & Arrows, but S1 is my favorite.

3. Who are your favorite characters? Pairings/moresomes?
I have trouble deciding who I love more sometimes: Benton Fraser or Geoffrey Tennant. I love all of the DS cast, pretty much, and Fraser/Ray K is my OTP. With Slings & Arrows, I don't really have a ship, but I love the genfic.

4. Do you create fanworks of any stripe? Feel free to link us to your work!
I've done a lot of graphics at my graphics journal, including a Fraser/Ray K mood theme that was a serious labor of love. I also have a Fraser/Ray K fic rec list.

I LOVE your icons and banners (have you seen my DW lately? I'm using one of your 9/Rose ones now), but that dS mood theme is, like, my favorite thing ever. =)

Hell yeah to the thing about Fraser's boots. Nnngh!

1. How long have you been in DS and/or C6D fandom? How did you discover us?
Halloo! *waves* I've been actively in the dS/C6D since summer of 2008 (I lurked an devoured fic before that). I found dS through he show The Sentinel - one of the Slash Virtual Season eps was a crossover that intrigued me enough to find dS fanfic. I fell hard for the show and the fanom, and have been happy here ever since :)

2. What are your favorite DS eps and/or C6D media?
Yikes! This is a hard question! Well, my answer changes nearly daily, but for now, favorite eps are Some Like it Red, Juliet is Bleeding, Burning Down the House and Mountie on the Bounty.

Wilby Wonderful is a film I rewatch pretty regularly, and on the other side of the spectrum, I adore Harper's Island beyond all reason.

3. Who are your favorite characters? Pairings/moresomes?
As a writer, I love RayK - for whatever reason, he's easiest to find a voice for when I write. But I adore them all and some (like Stella) I love because of fic, rather than the eps. FK, KV and FKV are my favotire pairing/more to read and write.

4. Do you create fanworks of any stripe? Feel free to link us to your work!
I do! I write, and everything is either on my LJ, or if it's on a comm, the link is on my year-end fic round-ups. I also create art on occasion, and there are several examples in my LJ gallery.

5. Pimp a community, a project, a creator, or something else related to DS/C6D fandom.
To pick something I hadn't seen pimped yet, I'm gonna go with [Unknown site tag] - MAJOR love for this comm, which is still active hear and on DW.
and I love the C6D Rewatch! I haven't participated lately, as Flashpoint isn't my thing, but next up is Harper's Island, and I will be there (almost) every week!
6. Tell us something else about you!
I sing! In a chorus, even, for coming up on 17 years! Which is why I will miss a rewatch week - it's at the same time as one of our concerts.

Miiiizz! *hugs* Are you coming to play over on Skype?

RayK's voice comes so much easier than anyone else's for me too. And I totally agree - I love fic!stella so much more than show!stella.

I am dying to know what the mystery pimp is. Stupid borked html!

Harpers for Halloween! Yay, rewatch!!

1. Introduce yourself! How long have you been in DS and/or C6D fandom? How did you discover us?
Well, I've been reading DS fic for a couple of years, watching it since first UK showings, though I've only written one fic.
And now, confession time- I actually have no idea what C6D is!

2. What are your favorite DS eps and/or C6D media?
There are so many but I'll pick these three- Mounty on the Bounty, Red White and Blue, Some like it Red.

3. Who are your favorite characters? Pairings/moresomes?
Definitely Fraser and Ray K- ever since seeing that little exchange at the end of 3.01 where Fraser asks if Ray would like to get something to eat. That pretty much set them up in my head.

4. Do you create fanworks of any stripe? Feel free to link us to your work!
I've only written one DS fic so far- Here (http://ebonyfeather.livejournal.com/86862.html). As I wandered into the fandom fairly late, and with about twenty other fandoms that I already write for, it's taken me a while!

5. Pimp a community, a project, a creator, or something else related to DS/C6D fandom.
The best place I've found for DS fic, except here of course, is A03.

6. Tell us something else about you!
Um... I write gay erotica for a publisher and I collect swords (full size battle re-enactment replicas).

Hi Ebony! Welcome!

C6D is kind of amorphously defined as Things That Star People Who Were In Due South (ie, anything Paul, Callum, etc were in) or Things That Star People Who Starred In Things With People Who Were In Due South (like Flashpoint counts because Hugh was in Hard Core Logo with Callum). Or sometimes just Things That So Canadian They Have To Count, depending on who you ask.

I'm bookmarking your fic to read later!

1. Introduce yourself! How long have you been in DS and/or C6D fandom? How did you discover us?
I read Speranza's stuff about a decade ago. At some point in 2008 I realized that through the magic of having regular income, I could do exciting stuff like buy DVDs, so I got due South and fell in love.

2. What are your favorite DS eps and/or C6D media?
Some Like It Red sticks out in my mind, plus Victoria's Secret.

As for other media Slings & Arrows owns large parts of my heart. I'm also terribly fond of Twitch City--in the sense where I love it and it hurts me--and I have recently been watching Michael: Tuesdays & Thursdays, and love that, too.

And The Drowsy Chaperone totally counts as C6D, as another Bob Martin & Don McKellar project, right? Hearts! Hearts in my eyes!

3. Who are your favorite characters? Pairings/moresomes?
due South - F/K/V
Slings & Arrows - Geoffrey, Darren, Ellen, Oliver, Anna, everybody. Okay, I can't play favorites, but I love writing Geoffrey and Darren snarking at each other, dressed or clothed.

4. Do you create fanworks of any stripe? Feel free to link us to your work!
I am so sad that delicious is kaput at the moment, but -- much of my stuff is on A03 (http://archiveofourown.org/users/Petra) in assorted C6D fandoms. I even wrote Eastwick one Yuletide.

5. Pimp a community, a project, a creator, or something else related to DS/C6D fandom.
Go watch Michael: Tuesdays & Thursdays. Please. Especially if you count for Canadian viewing numbers. A rather neurotic psychiatrist and his neurotic patient with beautifully sharp dialogue--what's not to love?

Also, major props to [livejournal.com profile] sageness, who is a rock star and the queen of betas, as well as being a lovely writer.

6. Tell us something else about you!
I am presently in love with several too many British TV shows, not least of which are Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes, Doctor Who, Scott & Bailey, Downton Abbey, and The Hour. If I sit still too long, I start talking about how beautiful and brilliant Keeley Hawes and Alex Kingston are.

1. Introduce yourself! How long have you been in DS and/or C6D fandom? How did you discover us? I got into the fandom when my friend made me watch the first RayK episode and read Speranza. I was instantly hooked!

That was around 2006 (just in time for Muskrat Jamboree '07!), although I was using a different LJ at the time ([livejournal.com profile] charashi, for the like... one of you that might remember me)... I kind of dropped off the map in '08, and I've been mostly lurking with this journal, I guess. My involvement in fandom is really haphazard, in general.

2. What are your favorite DS eps and/or C6D media? DS eps: There are so many! I have an all-time obsessive love over Victoria's Secret, North, Asylum, Mountie on the Bounty, Seeing is Believing...

For other C6D stuff, I am wild about Slings and Arrows and Hard Core Logo. I'm not sure if it totally counts, but I did also get into Battlestar Galactica because of CKR.

3. Who are your favorite characters? Pairings/moresomes? I am a Fraser girl, through and through. I love that secretly-a-mess of a man. Fraser/RayK is basically my OTP for life. I'll be, like, 80, and still quietly reading old fic and watching vids.

4. Do you create fanworks of any stripe? Feel free to link us to your work! I have a couple of fics at my LJ (http://ncc-gqmf.livejournal.com/tag/fanfiction), but like I said, my participation is sort of haphazard. I have, I think, two DS fics and two Slings and Arrows fics there, maybe? You can also check my AO3 (http://archiveofourown.org/users/ncc_gqmf/pseuds/ncc_gqmf). I also roleplay off-and-on and bop around the internet with accounts for Fraser, very rarely Ray, Geoffrey Tennant, and Joe Dick.

5. Pimp a community, a project, a creator, or something else related to DS/C6D fandom.

Even though it's dead, I'm going to give a shoutout to [livejournal.com profile] ds_flashfiction, because I love its model so much that I tried to bring it to Sirens fandom when we were facing our end of canon.

6. Tell us something else about you! I live in Japan! I still watch a truly ridiculous amount of American/British television! My LJ is, honestly, mostly for ranting about said television. /o\

1. Introduce yourself! How long have you been in DS and/or C6D fandom? How did you discover us?

I'm mmmarmalade, and I've been in the fandom since about '05. I've loved Due South since the pilot was broadcast on Canadian tv. Didn't own a computer 'til '04, and gradually discovered fanfic about many of the shows I loved. And then I was introduced to Cesperanza's DS fics, and I was pretty much a goner.

2. What are your favorite DS eps and/or C6D media?

Hmm...let's see---I love Victoria's Secret, of course, as well as North, Vault, Eclipse, All the Queen's Horse's, Mountie on the Bounty, Call of the Wild, and Burning Down the House. I also love Wilby Wonderful, Battlestar Galactica, The Invisible, Double Happiness, and Men With Brooms.

3. Who are your favorite characters? Pairings/moresomes?
I like pretty much all of the characters, especially Fraser, Kowalski, Turnbull, Buck, and Bob Fraser.
My favorite pairing is far and away F/K, with occasional forays into F/K/V and Fraser/Meg.

4. Do you create fanworks of any stripe? Feel free to link us to your work!
I have written a very few short fics, which I posted on, I believe, ds noticeboard many moons ago.

5. Pimp a community, a project, a creator, or something else related to DS/C6D fandom.

Some of my fave authors are: Cesperanza, Arrow00, and J.S. Cavalcante.

6. Tell us something else about you!

I love cats, reading, sewing, and anything Art Nouveau.

1. Introduce yourself! How long have you been in DS and/or C6D fandom? How did you discover us?

Hi! Hi hi hi! I'm Mal, and I've been in dS fandom since... wow, May 6, 2005. (http://malnpudl.livejournal.com/69907.html) I'm still in love. I dipped my toes into dS because an flister I'd found through SG-1 fandom was posting about the insane hotness of this Ray Kowalski guy. Because I'm a completist (and slightly nuts?) I promptly watched all the PG and CKR media I could find, which led me to HCL & the Headstones & Hugh Dillon. And, you know, devouring all the F/K fic I could find. *g*

2. What are your favorite DS eps and/or C6D media?

I can't pick favorite dS eps. You can't make me. Anything but "An Invitation to Romance." As for the rest, I have a huuuuuuuge crush on Bruce McDonald's great big, brilliant, freak-ass brain, and I have special love for his work, especially HCL and Claire's Hat. Umm... Wilby, of course, and Twitch City and S&A. Tales of the City, Getting Married in Buffalo Jump, Buried on Sunday, Men With Brooms (which gets better each time I watch it), H2O and Trojan Horse, My Life as a Dog, Men With Guns (which I love for CKR's Mamet and the gorgeous direction even though I sort of hate the movie), the ridiculous hotness of Ollie in Masterminds, and oh, god, Frank's Cock. ReGenesis and Da Vinci's Inquest! Flashpoint. Everything by the Headstones ever. Paul's music (shut up). The Tragically Hip (they count, right?).

3. Who are your favorite characters? Pairings/moresomes?

OMG, Fraser/RayK, the eternal OTP of my heart. Vecchio, god, I love him; my own personal Ray Vecchio is straight, and I cherish the rare bits of Vecchio het fic. DIEF!

I also love C6D RPF; my heart pairings are Martha/Paul & Hugh/Callum. But I'm also a sucker for Hugh/Trent & Paul/Callum. Mix and match. Puppy pile? :-D

Geoffrey/Ellen in S&A; Duck/Dan in Wilby, and young!Duck/young!Buddy.

Obscure crossover heart pairing: Gus/Johnny in [livejournal.com profile] aukestrel's gorgeous Buried on Sunday/MLaaD crossover series (Chansons de marin (http://www.aukestrel.com/fanfic/chansonsdemarin.html) and Une vie moins ordinaire (http://aukestrel.com/fanfic/uneviemoinsordinaire.html)).

4. Do you create fanworks of any stripe?

I do! It's all in my LJ memories (http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=malnpudl) under Fanfic, Shortfic, & Podfic.

5. Pimp a community, a project, a creator, or something else related to DS/C6D fandom.

Fic & art: [livejournal.com profile] brooklinegirl, who brings the crazy hotness and introduced me to kinks I didn't even know I had; [livejournal.com profile] joandarck, who's got freaky magic in her brain; [livejournal.com profile] china_shop, who is every kind of brilliant. The delightful Dief & Turtle fanart series by [livejournal.com profile] love_jackianto.

For a backlog of awesome older picspam posts and fannish celebration: [livejournal.com profile] scriggle (you can also thank her for many of the treasures in your closet), [livejournal.com profile] _divya_, & [livejournal.com profile] c_regalis (who founded the glee-inducing [livejournal.com profile] the_ckr_files).

6. Tell us something else about you!

Dogs are my favorite people. Also, I'm long-winded and don't know when to stop running off at the keyboard. Maybe now would be a good time, especially because I'm recovering from a shoulder injury and typing makes it worse. /o\

Haha about loving Paul's music. I just bought Two Houses (from someone in England for an outlandish price) for the friend who got me into due South's birthday. She adores all things Paul Gross, but hasn't heard his music yet.

1. Introduce yourself! How long have you been in DS and/or C6D fandom? How did you discover us?

Hi all! I'm kuonji, kuonji14 on LJ. I've known about DS for a long time but only been 'in the fandom' for a few months. A friend introduced me to DS back in... 2000, maybe? She showed me a videotape of the pilot and "Burning Down The House". I was into The Sentinel at the time and Speranza was one of my favorite authors, so I poked around and read her DS fics as well. The same friend eventually gave me the DVDs as a gift, so I watched all the eps and loved the series, but I was deep in a different fandom at the time, so DS was not a big deal for me in the online world. I did read some more fics off and on over the years. Finally, in June or July of this year, I was reminded of the series and decided to rewatch some of it. The timing was right this time, and it really grabbed me and would not let go, so... here I am. Having a blast. ;)

2. What are your favorite DS eps and/or C6D media?

Hmmm, I haven't watched the series in a long time. "Burning Down The House" is a favorite b/c it's just so bizarre, for the episode itself and also the whole background of the Ray Vecchio-David Marciano-Callum Keith Rennie-Paul Gross thing. "Seeing Is Believing" and "Dead Man Running" are 'gateway eps' that I recommend to people. I think they both illustrate the peculiar intelligent humor of the series as well as showing off the characters and relationships to some degree. I also liked the one where RayV and Fraser are hooked up to a bomb together and have to keep calm.

Wilby Wonderful is definitely my favorite C6D work. I love every thing about it. I watched this movie years ago but again, it didn't really grab me until I rewatched it this summer. I'm so glad I did. :)

Slings & Arrows is also excellent.

3. Who are your favorite characters? Pairings/moresomes?

Ray Kowalski! I am usually willing to read any pairing with him in it. I used to think I was merely a RayK girl; I have since discovered that I am also a CKR girl. Not at all a bad thing, mind you. :) Can't watch DS without loving Fraser as well, *g. I read almost exclusively Fraser/RayK and gen. Love for Diefenbaker as well!

4. Do you create fanworks of any stripe? Feel free to link us to your work!

I write fanfic. I think that's about all. :) I watch videos and love art but don't create either.

For DS so far, I have eight fics: four Fraser/RayK, four gen or het. I've written three or eight Wilby fics, depending if you count the side stories to one of the fics ("Points In Common") as separate or not. I recently posted a fic for The X-Files: I Want To Believe.

All my DS/C6D fic is here: http://kuonji14.livejournal.com/40817.html#cutid1

5. Pimp a community, a project, a creator, or something else related to DS/C6D fandom.

Speranza, of course. I think Kellie Matthews was the second author that I read and remembered. On my reintroduction to DS, I spent a few weeks savoring the stories on Isis's rec list (http://mysticalchild-isis.dreamwidth.org/3078.html), and lately, just everything is fantastic. Difficult to name any authors in particular. :) As for communities, this one of course, since it is my DS portal! Also, http://ds-ficfinders.livejournal.com/. I spend the majority of my time on these two comms, and also visit http://the-ckr-files.livejournal.com/ occasionally.

6. Tell us something else about you!

I am incredibly OC. I have a spreadsheet of my fanfics. Not kidding. :D

Also, I once had a dream where I gave Fraser a hug and then offered to buy him a spork from REI. Best dream ever.

1. Introduce yourself! How long have you been in DS and/or C6D fandom? How did you discover us?

First time watching dS was during the first run of reruns on TNT. Had to wait about 2(?) years after TNT stopped reruning dS to catch it again. Other than RayK, the one thing I remembered was the pretty theme song. *g*

I was in the Buffy fandom (as the lurkiest of all lurkers) around the time I found the dS one (we're talking late 2003 here.) Lurked for about three years and then got over my shyness and started to comment to fics and meet the dS peeps.

2. What are your favorite DS eps and/or C6D media?

dS: Some Like It Red, Letting Go, North, Seeing is Believing, Dead Man Walking. I'll always have some extra love for Mountie and Soul since that was the first dS episode I ever watched. So, yeah, I kinda watched the series backwards: S3-->S1-->S2.

C6D: Flashpoint, Harper's Island, BSG, Shattered, Men With Brooms, Slings &Arrows, Blade: Trinity, My Life as a Dog, The Invisible and (if I'm in a creepy mood) Durham County. I've watched most of the main C6D media, but those are the ones that ping me hard to this day.

3. Who are your favorite characters? Pairings/moresomes?

dS: As far as I'm concerned, most of the characters are awesome. I could bemoan the fact that we're missing huge chunks of back AND future story for a lot of them. But then, that's what fic is for. ;D! Over the past year or so, I've gotten more \o/ about Frannie and Turnbull than anyone else.

Well, except for Dief and Turtle. Those two certainly have an awesomecakes and cute act going strong after all these years. *g*

We'd seriously be here all day if I was to list all the pairings so, let's go the easy route: F/K is my OTP. I ship Frannie, Thatcher and Turbull w/pretty much everyone except Fraser, RayK and/or Vecchio (well, I *do* ship Vecchio/Thatcher over Vecchio/Stella, but I digress . . .). I don't slash Welsh, Dead!Bob, Frobisher, Dewey or Vecchio. There. Simple.

As for C6D media, there are way too many possible pairings. Here are a few of my OTPs: Geoffrey/Ellen, Anna/Darren, Asher/Hannibal King, Leoben/Leoben and Ed/Greg.

4. Do you create fanworks of any stripe? Feel free to link us to your work!

I write. (My AO3 page (http://archiveofourown.org/users/Lucifuge5/pseuds/Lucifuge5/works).) The dS/C6D ficcage has diminished somewhat because dS isn't my main fandom anymore. Still, there are a few dS and/or C6D plot bunnies hanging about.

5. Pimp a community, a project, a creator, or something else related to DS/C6D fandom.

dS used to have a strong presence over a [livejournal.com profile] crack_van (a multi-fandom reccing community.) AFAIK, there are only two reccers left and then there won't be any more dS. With a minimum of 4 fics and a maximum of 12, it's not uber-difficult to participate. IJS. :)

Besides, there are new people writing all kinds of stories with interesting/different pairings. What better chance to give them props that to rec their works?

There's a queue for smaller fandoms. Several C6D ones (Slings & Arrows and C6D RPF) have gotten their time in the spotlight that way.

6. Tell us something else about you!

After almost a decade of being pretty much monofannish, I've gotten into Bandom in a totally unexpected yet organic way. At this point, I'm totes *___________* with it, writing stories/talking about/squeeing with other fangirls about dirty rockers and their imaginary and non-imaginary shenanigans.

That said, dS is one of those rare fandoms that you never quite leave because of the quality of the fics and the people. Coupled with the Chia pet-like quality of C6D, well, it's not as solid of a hiatus as it could be expected.

*waves* Hi, I'm Aka and I've been in dS/C6D since 2007. Wow, time really flies when you're in fandom.

I've been suffering severe burnout and have stopped being as active in due South/C6D fandom; I don't know if I'll ever come back to due South, but I don't know if I'll ever really leave.

I got into the show via the fanfic, though I did watch some of the episodes of due South when they aired.

2. What are your favorite DS eps and/or C6D media?

Favorite dS episodes: MotB, Ladies Man, Strange Bedfellows, The Deal.

C6D media: Hard Core Logo. The Invisible. Wilby Wonderful. Durham County. Shattered. Pontypool. Frank's Cock. Slings & Arrows. ReGenesis. Gunless. Just to name a few.

3. Who are your favorite characters? Pairings/moresomes?

RayK is my absolute favorite. I also have mad love for Joe Dick, Billy Talent, Turtle and Dief. Geoffrey Tennant. David Sandström. Stella. Anna. Laurel Ann. Sadie. Duck MacDonald. Buddy French. Emily Anderson.

The pairing of my heart is RayK/Fraser and Billy/Joe, but beyond that, I'm pretty open to just about anything.

4. Do you create fanworks of any stripe? Feel free to link us to your work!

Yes. I write. Some. All available at AO3. I sometimes create other kinds of art, graphics or digital art, and sometimes physical art like collages or similar weirdness. You'd have to hang around my journal to catch those.

I'm Thursdaynext_27 (sometimes nicknamed Thurs). On Dreamwidth with the same name, and on Twitter as Thursnext27.

I first got into DS fandom in 1999-2001, but I honestly cannot remember how I got here. I lurked, then dropped out, then jumped back in around January 2010. This time around, I'm pleased to say, I did not lurk.

2. What are your favorite DS eps and/or C6D media?

DS: Chicago Holiday (joking). North, Hawk & A Handsaw, The Deal, VS, Some Like It Red, Eclipse, Strange Bedfellows, MotB, Ladies Man

C6D: HCL, Wilby Wonderful, Last Night, Twitch City, Slings & Arrows, Flashpoint, Durham County, Shattered, Men with Brooms

3. Who are your favorite characters? Pairings/moresomes?

I love so many of the characters, and *heart* Vecchio even more after the 2010 rewatch. Favorite pairings: I started with RayK/Fraser, and then fell hard for RayK/RayV. Also: Joe/Billy, Duck/Dan, and in crossoverland, Kowalski/Sweeney. Plus some of the RPF pairings.

4. Do you create fanworks of any stripe? Feel free to link us to your work!

After years of stops and starts, I finally posted my first works this year. So far, just 2 snippets (http://archiveofourown.org/users/thursdaynext_27/pseuds/thursdaynext_27), but I'm hoping to finish my first 1,000+ word story this weekend. I loved Kara/Leoben, almost as much as Roslin/Airlock. They (Kara/Leoben) deserved a much better ending on the show.

1. Introduce yourself! How long have you been in DS and/or C6D fandom? How did you discover us?

I've been in the fandom since, hmm, 2007? I actually got into online fandom via anime and manga, and then migrated into Western media fandom. I was in Good Omens first, mainly as a lurker, and then found my home in due South/C6D fandom! I think I'm here to stay. &hearts

2. What are your favorite DS eps and/or C6D media?

I love Victoria's Secret in all its angsty glory, but I also love some of the lighter eps like All The Queen's Horses. And of course Call of the Wild. With C6D stuff, I guess I'm pretty mainstream--I love Wilby Wonderful and Slings and Arrows.

3. Who are your favorite characters? Pairings/moresomes?

I love Fraser so much! He's definitely the character of my heart. I most often write him paired with Kowalski, but I've also written Fraser/Victoria, Fraser/Thatcher, Fraser/Smithbauer, Fraser/Eric, Fraser/Denny Scarpa, Fraser/OMC and F/K/V. I also love the whole Fraser family, and have a tiny crush on young Bob Fraser. And I have a weakness for Frannie/Maggie and Frannie/Elaine.

4. Do you create fanworks of any stripe? Feel free to link us to your work!

Yes I do! My fic is indexed here (also on the AO3, and my podfic is here.

5. Pimp a community, a project, a creator, or something else related to DS/C6D fandom.

[livejournal.com profile] ds_snippets and its DW counterpart is one of my favorite comms! I love the 300-word format for itself, and it's also a great way to warm up your writing when you're rusty, or to let off steam when you're working on longer projects. *sends love to the mods*

6. Tell us something else about you!

Oh, hmm. I am Swedish, and I am a professional mathematician and an amateur biologist.

1. Introduce yourself! How long have you been in DS and/or C6D fandom? How did you discover us?

My friends renenet, sisabet, and pipsqueaky talked to me about the show for two hours at Vividcon in 2005, and so two weeks later I watched the Pilot (http://ds-reruns.livejournal.com/5325.html). Dief was my favorite character at first! Then I fell for the show itself with "Gift of the Wheelman," Fraser in "Wild Bunch," and then Ray punched me in the heart in "The Deal" and I haven't looked back. I fell out of fandom around 2009, but I've been feeling nostalgic for it the last couple of months, so this Homecoming was well-timed for me!

2. What are your favorite DS eps and/or C6D media?

Due South: "Pilot," "Gift of the Wheelman," "The Deal," "Victoria's Secret 1&2," "North" (my ALL TIME favorite!), "Vault," "Witness," "Bird in The Hand," "Some Like It Red," "The Duel," "Red, White, and Blue," and "Body Language." I also like "Bounty Hunter" and "The Ladies Man" from S3/4.

In C6D, I love Twitch City, Hard Core Logo, and Slings & Arrows. S&A is amazing.

3. Who are your favorite characters? Pairings/moresomes?

Fraser/Vecchio is the OTP of my heart. I also really love F/K/V and Kowalski/Vecchio (and I always mentally ship Fraser with Janet from Bounty Hunter in K/V fics). I love all the characters in Due South, truly, but Ray Vecchio is one of my all-time favorite characters EVER. Like, ever-ever. I also love Anita Cortez from "The Edge" more than you'd think possible given she was a one-off character! I even wrote a fic just about her (http://sdwolfpup.livejournal.com/352757.html).

But honestly, due South is such a warm show; it's my happy show, because everyone in it, from Welsh to Frannie to Kowalski to so many of the one-time cast, are delightful.

Anna from Slings & Arrows is another one of my all-time favorite characters. I have SO MUCH love for her. She can do no wrong in my eyes.

4. Do you create fanworks of any stripe? Feel free to link us to your work!

I haven't in awhile but I wrote fic back in the day (http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=sdwolfpup&keyword=Fic%20I%20wrote&filter=allD). Mostly due South (F/V, F/K/V, and V/K), but also some Hard Core Logo and S&A. I also made DS icons (http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=sdwolfpup&keyword=Due%20South%20icons&filter=all). I'm still an active (but slow!) vidder, and I've made several DS vids and recently one HCL vid (http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=sdwolfpup&keyword=Vids&filter=all).

5. Pimp a community, a project, a creator, or something else related to DS/C6D fandom.

Hmmm...here's the newbieguide for Due South (http://newbieguide.livejournal.com/12007.html). I'm not sure how the links stack up anymore. :)

6. Tell us something else about you!

Uhhhh. I'm terrible at these sorts of things...I'm big into photography right now and am learning how to use my digital SLR more correctly.

Hey, what Fraser/Janet Morse fics do you know of? There's one by [livejournal.com profile] llassah, and I think I remember one that was K/V and set at Fraser's and Janet's wedding, but I can't think of any others. I have a craving for Fraser het at the moment (and watching your "Pour Some Sugar On Me" vid makes it worse). : )

1. Introduce yourself! How long have you been in DS and/or C6D fandom? How did you discover us?
Hello there! I jumped into the due South fandom 5 years ago after some meta linked me to [livejournal.com profile] speranza's 'Chicago's Most Wanted'. Which was a rather confusing but delightful introduction to the source material! I'm not really active in the fandom these days, but I still poke my head in now and then.

2. What are your favorite DS eps and/or C6D media?
'Victoria's Secret', 'The Deal', 'Asylum', and 'Good for the Soul' are probably my favorites. Yes, I like the darker episodes! I also adore Slings & Arrows.

3. Who are your favorite characters? Pairings/moresomes?
I 'hear' RayK better than any other character, and he's the one who tends to inspire me. On the other hand I have a great deal in common with Fraser, and so some of my fics focused on him are the most personal, in ways that probably no one but me would recognize. I really enjoy Fraser/RayK, because they are both incredibly needy, and without a hint of moderation in their souls.

4. Do you create fanworks of any stripe? Feel free to link us to your work!
I sure do! I've written a lot of gen and F/K fic. I also vid and podfic a bit. Here's a link to my due South fic and vids (http://keerawa.livejournal.com/18962.html). Or you could find me at the AO3 (http://archiveofourown.org/users/keerawa), which isn't a complete archive of my work but has some nice features. My personal favorite piece of writing is Con Job (http://keerawa.livejournal.com/32834.html).

5. Pimp a community, a project, a creator, or something else related to DS/C6D fandom.
I adore [livejournal.com profile] ds_snippets. Writing snippets is a wonderful way to improve your craft. Half of my work is snippets, and it's all because of this community! Check out the amazing stories people can tell in 300 words or less.

6. Tell us something else about you!
I'm watching and loving 'Chicago Code' (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1620950/) right now. It's a single season cop show set in Chicago. It deals with themes of corruption and loyalty and what it means to be real police in a way I think due South did at it's best. Unlike most shows on TV, the plots hinge on the main characters, both protagonists and antagonists, acting in intelligent and thoughtful ways.

Also, I keep expecting Detective Jarek Wysocki to threaten to kick someone in the head. You should all rent and watch it!

1. Introduce yourself! How long have you been in DS and/or C6D fandom? How did you discover us?

Name's Steff, been into DS since sometime in the middle of last year, and discovered this place after wanting to learn more about the fandom aspects of it. XD Also, needed somewhere to post fic.

2. What are your favorite DS eps and/or C6D media?

Pretty much all of it. But especially the real shining Vecchio stories, and just about anything involving Turnbull. Like people couldn't guess that! Also have quite a bit of love of some of Dean McDermott's roles, after falling in love with Turnbull, and have made it a point to hunt out the rare, the obscure and the bizarre from both McDermott's and Marciano's careers.

3. Who are your favorite characters? Pairings/moresomes?

::points up:: Ray Vecchio and Renfield Turnbull, in that combination as well. But I actually love every single character in DS, and all the characters we've written that aren't canon that surround them.

4. Do you create fanworks of any stripe? Feel free to link us to your work!

Indeed. I take the screencaps for Erin's C6D picspams. She and I wrote (and will finish) the Due South Zombie Radioplay. We co-write the massive epic arc, Arch to the Sky. I've done some minor fanart. We also worked on the re-vised and updated version of Renfield Turnbull: The Collected Stories.

5. Pimp a community, a project, a creator, or something else related to DS/C6D fandom.

All of it? XD Uhm... hm. Honestly, most of what I would pimp...

Wait. Okay, some totally amazing human being put up all of the Canadian series Powerplay, which is absolutely worth watching. With Dean McDermott and Gordon Pinsent, it's a wonderfully enthralling series and I couldn't recommend it enough. It ate two or three days of my life, as I devoured it.

6. Tell us something else about you!

I work as a custodian in a library, and it's a pretty awesome job. I get off on what Dean is doing to that tie in the scene where this icon comes from, when I'm not busy still boggling months later at seeing him in a role as a Mountie in duty gear, because God, yes.

I love writing, drawing and creating whole and breathing worlds that pull people in. I would actually probably sleep with Guy Laurent.

1. Introduce yourself! How long have you been in DS and/or C6D fandom? How did you discover us?

Hi! I'm actually not just a ghost in the intertubes, despite recent evidence (or lack thereof). I first saw dS when it aired in the UK originally (BBC2, Thursdays at 6pm :D :D :D) and liked it, but hadn't yet fallen into fandom (hell, I didn't even know what the internet was back in those dark days) so didn't get beyond making goo-goo eyes at the cute show will all the awesome people.

Fast forward to January 2005 and hour mumbletymany of a woe-is-me-I'm-unemployed-and-depressed multifandom fic-reading marathon (my coping mechanisms = the BEST) and by an amusing confluence of link clicking I ended up on the dueslash archive. And then I lurked in the fandom on LJ hardcore for a few months, until [livejournal.com profile] getfraserlaid came along and [livejournal.com profile] lipstickcat totally forced me to sign up and write my first fic. For a value of "forced" that actually means "linked me to the sign up post" ahem. I was pretty active up through 2008 and then kind of crashed and burned on the fannish front in general, but you never entirely leave c6d, do you? So I'm still hanging around (like a bad smell).

2. What are your favorite DS eps and/or C6D media?
I can't pick just one dS episode, dammit! :O Otherwise, I have a huuuuge crush on Wilby Wonderful, and an only slightly smaller crush on Hard Core Logo when viewed in the presence of fangirls *waves at the attendees of previous BPs*

3. Who are your favorite characters? Pairings/moresomes?
Okay, so, this may come as a surprise to some, but I am overly invested in Diefenbaker in all his donut-coverting glory. I heart Fraser/Kowalski, Ray/Ray, think that Fraser and Vecchio should be the best of friends forEVER, and have been known to dabble in OT3.

4. Do you create fanworks of any stripe? Feel free to link us to your work!
Yep, although I've been consistently failing on the fannish productivity for a while now. My stuff is either on my LJ/DW, in assorted dS comms, or archived at the AO3 under etcetera_cat.

5. Pimp a community, a project, a creator, or something else related to DS/C6D fandom.
Both iterations of ds_match produced some awesome fic! And I'm not jsut saying that because I took part both times *shifty eyes* [livejournal.com profile] catwalksalone also does/did the BEST ever ds comics. Truly, don't let Kowalski interview the perp!

6. Tell us something else about you!
Getting to know the people in dS fandom is what made me start going to conventions, and the friends I initially made in dS fandom are some of the main reasons I still go to cons. Dorky but true! If you ever go to Bitchin' Party or Muskrat Jamboree you'll probably trip over me at some point (brightly coloured, usually wearing the facial expression of a terminally stunned ptarmigan due to timezones + no sleep, ridiculous English accent which is actually genuine, no matter what [livejournal.com profile] zeenell will try to convince you of, clinging to my beloved-but-distant fangirls), probably near either the coffee or the craft table.

Also, nope I don't think one ever leaves C6D. If you do, Joe Dick will haunt you foreverrrrrr! DDDDD: or \o?

1. Introduce yourself! How long have you been in DS and/or C6D fandom? How did you discover us?
Uh, 2007 wasn't it when I moved to Canada? And then I watched some due South because there was this huge Collection of Cable channels and I thought 'well, this looks like fun'. And now I'm here because it's a slippery slope from watching to writing fic.

2. What are your favorite DS eps and/or C6D media?
Um. Juliet is Bleeding for its complete left-field-whoa. Burning Down the House for its careful cunning symmetry. And Passchendaele because I still have my ticket to it with the signatures. So there's that.

3. Who are your favorite characters? Pairings/moresomes?
I try not to pick favourites. If I pick favourites then I might decide to not read something awesome. Which would suck.

4. Do you create fanworks of any stripe? Feel free to link us to your work!
Yes. I'm currently buried in trying to work out how this vidding lark goes, but I've written fic. And drawn a picture.

5. Pimp a community, a project, a creator, or something else related to DS/C6D fandom.
There's a Seekrit Santa coming up. I'm soliciting opinions on my participating this year. Because every year I participate I go a little crazy and then words happen and then I post it, but I'd need to go crazier so I could post early this year because there's some sort of holiday thing in my future.

6. Tell us something else about you!
I made Pizza Pancakes for dinner, a recipe which I feel firmly Kowalski would invent. And there is a not-very-subtle C6D reference in this icon.

1. Introduce yourself! How long have you been in DS and/or C6D fandom? How did you discover us?
I discovered fanfiction in 2002, and it didn't take me long to stumble across dS fanfic. It immediately took up all my reading time. Then in 2003 I found the old "ds_reporter", which led to [livejournal.com profile] ds_flashfiction, and became an active participant in the fandom.

2. What are your favorite DS eps and/or C6D media?

Hard question! I really love most episodes, but have a weakness for The Blue Line. The Pilot is probably what I've rewatched most.

3. Who are your favorite characters? Pairings/moresomes?

Fraser and his Rays! Diefenbaker! Bob! Welsh, the Duck Boys, Elaine, Frannie. Mort, OMG! Mark Smithbauer, Eric K---, Quinn (people who give us a glimpse of wee!Ben). I love Meg and Stella more in fanfic, as I think the show failed to do them justice.

In c6d mode I am stupidly fond of Curtis, Hope and Newbie (and Hugh in his multiple cameos) from Twitch City.

4. Do you create fanworks of any stripe? Feel free to link us to your work!

I'm slowly migrating to AO3 (where you can find my non-dS fic), and most of my work is on the dS Archive.

5. Pimp a community, a project, a creator, or something else related to DS/C6D fandom.

due South Seekrit Santa (http://archiveofourown.org/collections/dsss_2011/profile)!!!!! Come and play!

6. Tell us something else about you!

I LOVE due South and the fandom. I have tried out other fandoms, but I'm still here! I have a family which pretty much eats my brane, so I'm not around as much as I used to be.
