Due South/C6D Homecoming Fest Mini-Exchange!

Hi and welcome to the earliest part of the ds_noticeboard DS/C6D Homecoming Fest -- the ficlet & icon-set mini-exchange! Sign-ups for the mini-exchange are open as of RIGHT NOW -- and they will stay open for just over 48 hours, until this Wednesday at 12 noon, Chicago time. Yes, this is a lightning-fast mini-exchange this time around. Let's see what we can come up with in a handful of days! \o/ \o/ \o/

STEP ONE: Sign-up Here
Sign-ups are open from now until 12 noon Chicago time, Wed, Oct. 5th. To sign up, you simply COMMENT below with the following info: (Comments on this post are screened.)

1. your email address
2. whether you're going to write or make icons
3. how many snippets/icon sets you want to sign up to create (you can write one ficlet, or make one icon set, or do one of each, for a maximum of 2)
4. all the DS/C6D fandoms, pairings or characters you're willing to write/icon (you can say "any" but be aware that people will take you at your word.)
5. if there's anything you won't write/icon, eg. if you're gen only, slash only (please keep this as simple as possible)
6. whether you're willing to pinch hit.


For example:

- Due South: Fraser/Kowalski, Fraser/Vecchio, young!Bob/young!Buck, Turnbull/Turtle, Thatcher/Mort.

- BSG: Leoben/Leoben(/Leoben)/other cylons.
5. I won't create: deathfic, noncon, or anything involving ice cream.
6. Yes, I'll pinch hit if you need me!

Please keep your sign-up as straightforward as possible. And remember, the more fandoms, pairings and characters you offer, the easier it will be for everyone to play!

What happens next?


STEP TWO: Secret Numbers
I will email you your SECRET NUMBER(s). Do not tell anyone your number(s)!

When sign-ups close (Wednesday at noon, in just a bit over 48 hours), I'll make a NEW post with all the sign-up offers listed by anonymous number!


STEP THREE: Assign Prompts to Each Other
When I post the ANONYMOUS NUMBERED LIST of everyone's offers, you pick a number (not your own!) to be the person who writes/makes icons for you. If you sign up to make 2 things, then you MUST pick 2 numbers to assign prompts to.

You comment with the number(s) of your choice(s) and an appropriate prompt:
~ a pairing or character, and a SINGLE LINE of dialogue for ficlets; OR
~ a simple character request and/or wording for icons.

For example:
#7 - Due South: Gardino/Thatcher "I never would have thought of that."
#18 - I'd like some Flashpoint icons, please - maybe some of Hugh and others of the team.

Numbers will be struck off the list as they're claimed.

Comments on the prompt assigning post will NOT be screened.


STEP FOUR: Your Assignment
You'll be able to see the prompt comments, so you can check for yourself. But to make sure there aren't any misunderstandings, when all the sign-ups have been given prompts we'll post a numbered list with the prompt and the name of the person who requested it, for confirmation.


STEP 5: Posting!
You have until 12 noon Chicago Time on Sunday Oct 9 to create and post your ficlet (250-1000ish words; preferably beta-read, or at least grammar-checked) or icon set (sets of 6 to 8; your recipient can pick one or two icons to be exclusively for them, if they wish, and the rest will be shareable).


Post your snippets or icon sets any time between 6pm Friday Oct 7 and 12 noon Sunday, Oct 9. This is supposed to be a zippy-fast, low stress mini-exchange, but I still want everyone who signs up to receive something in turn. If your life implodes and you can't make the deadline, please email me as soon as you have the slightest doubt of finishing on time so I can activate a pinch hitter!!

To Recap:
~ Ficlets should be between 250 and 1000ish words
~ Icons sets should contain 6 to 8 icons
~ Do not stress. This is fun!
~ At the same time, remember this is a (tiny! zippy!) gift exchange, so please make sure ficlets are legible and icons look nice.
~ Read and comment and enjoy and sparkle!

Hi, as far art, this mini-exchange is only for icon-sets. Here's how it went one of the previous times we've run it, if you need a reference point. :)

If I sign up to write, can I only choose a writer to write for me?

Yes. What happens is all the (anonymized) offers will be listed by number, so when that post goes live Wednesday, you simply choose one of the offers for fic that looks good to you, and then assign a prompt to it. Most of the offers so far are for stories, so you should be fine, but you'll still probably want to make a note to watch the comm Wednesday. Prompt assignment is on a first-come basis. :)

So just to clarify, if I offer art can I only choose art, or can I choose art or fic?

Sorry, I didn't mean to make this more confusing. You get to assign a prompt to ANY offer, no matter what you're offering to create. The only rules here are that you assign exactly as many prompts as you offer (give one, get one; give two; get two), and that you don't assign a prompt to your own number(s). Hope that explains it better!

Sorry, just to clarify. If I write a snippet, I cannot choose to prompt an icon-maker, and vice versa?

Oops, I made things more confusing. I should have said, you get to assign a prompt to ANY of the numbered offers that look good to you, whether it's for fic or for icons. Just so long as you don't assign prompts to your own secret numbers. So sorry for the confusion!

. . . This weekend is actually Thanksgiving in Canada. Would it make more sense to change the name of the event to reflect that?
