OK, I don't know if this is exactly the right place to post this, but I'm gonna go ahead and do it anyway. Mods, if it's not, let me know.
A little while ago, I mentioned on my journal that I was making a 3d animation, like a mini due South episode. There's not much point looking at the original post, since I mostly rambled about how I'd spent over two hours making RayK's hair, which still sucked. I have, after some more hours, improved the hair.
What I'm looking for is someone to help me come up with a storyline. I'm getting so engrossed in the animation and construction of sets/props, I'm sticking in bits of story to go around this weeks cool set design.
The general idea is a short-ish, maybe 10-15 minute animation, which is weeks of work. It will take months, since I do have real life to work around, but it's something I really want to get done, since it will look great on a university portfolio/showreel for animation/film production, which is what I want to study.
I want to go with as much action and little dialouge as possible, since all dialogue will have to be subtitles, becuase of my lack of Paul Gross/CKR to record dialogue for me.
I am by no means any kind of expert at this kind of thing, and there are huge sticking points in the project of things I want to do but have no idea how to. It's a very steep learning curve for me, so anyone willing to help will have to put up with emails of 'OMG, how do I do this?'
I would also like to work with someone from the basic idea that if someone is waiting to see how much I've done this week, I might actually do it.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Also, I would be happy to work with a team of people, on different aspects of it, so if there are people who have experience in set design, lighting etc. and would like to help, or you just want to jump in and kick me into doing stuff, do say.
I'm working with Poser 7, for the main part. I tried messing around with Bryce for panoramic scenes, but the import/export was too clunky, and messed up animation, so this is a last resort. For all props I'm making myself, which isn't all that many, I'm using 3ds Max. If anyone wanted to know any of that.
Also, any idea how to tag this?

Date: 2009-03-01 09:36 pm (UTC)Ray's hair? My first attempt, that did look Ray-ish, had to be strand based, meaning every single hair was rendered seperately. A file with just Ray, no background or props, took ten minutes to render. WHen I added Fraser to the scene, my computer froze. Now I have a hair that looks a little less authentic, but doesn't kill my graphics card.

Date: 2009-03-01 09:38 pm (UTC)If it all turns out to be too much work, I'll probably just stick the the case fic idea, with the odd slashy comment thrown in.
It's more likely to be mild slash, because I can't not look at things slashily. (And yes, slashily is a word. You know what it means, it communicates an idea. Just becuase it's not in a dictionary anywhere means nothing *g*)

Date: 2009-03-03 04:37 am (UTC)Awesome! \o/
I was wondering a year or so back how long it'd be before someone attempted something like this. I mean, we've had manips in vids (one or two) -- it was only a matter of time. Though, yes, huuuuge amount of work, and the dialogue is a problem. *wonders if it would be possible to make a story that worked using existing dialogue*

Date: 2009-03-03 01:50 pm (UTC)Also, the project is maybe on hold for a week or so, becuase I had to reinstall Poser, which is the program I'm using for the majority of the work. I backed up all of the files, but forgot to back up all of the extras I'd installed, and so the clothes/props I was using were suddenly all gone. And I can't find the flash drive they were on *headdesk... repeatedly*

Oh no! *sends sympathy chocolate*

Date: 2009-03-03 09:40 pm (UTC)Anyway... moving on...
*sends sympathy chocolate back. Minus a few pieces* I found them! The flash drive was hiding behind some books on the shelf next to the computer. I've half done one of the intro scenes now. It's only about three seconds long, but it does have fully animated fire. Which, ouch. But it's also very pretty, so yay.

Date: 2009-03-03 02:14 am (UTC)I have a story in a whole other fandom. This story happens to be an (other fandom)/Due South crossover. I'm rather fond of the scene in chapter three where BF and RK are introduced. It sounds in my head like a scene I'd love to see.
I say it is a challenge for animation though because in it, Ray K is soaking wet. There would be lots of movement on Ray's part, causing little droplets of water to spray around him. Which could be really cool.
Anyway, the setting is the 27th precinct bullpen.
If you're interested let me know.

Date: 2009-03-03 01:54 pm (UTC)And aside from the technical difficulties, that level of animation/redering may defeat my computer. It's not specifically designed for high graphics proccessing, and whilst it's on the high end of public market computers for graphics, it's nothing compared to professional animation studios.
So... maybe/maybe not.
I'll give it a try though, so email me? asytia @ ymail . com
