I liked this, except for Ray's dialect/accent, but that's just because I have a general hatred for written-out accents: I find they slow me down, because I see them as misspellings, and have to stop and work out the right spelling and what the words really mean. *shudders* But apart from that, this was a nice story.
My favourite line was: "Fraser nodded as though he understood. He said he understood. Perhaps he’d just lied again. He wished he had his hat with him." I love the idea that Frasers hat is a comfort to him!
Oh, and a beta reader is like an editor or a proofreader. I think the word 'beta' comes from computer software beta releases, when the designers let real people use it and find all the little bugs and errors.
Beta readers are easy to find - just post to ds_noticeboard asking for one (with some details of the story and pairing), and then email the story to them so they can look at it. They'll correct the mistakes they spot, maybe make some suggestions, and then email it back to you and you can decide whether or not to follow their advice. *smiles*
