Fascinating News Tidbit (or Rumor)

This weekend I was at a fabulous fannish gathering (not Due South related, but fabulous all the same) and happened to be talking about Due South, as I am wont to do. Someone there (was it![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
przed? Makes sense if it was, since she lives in Toronto.) Anyway, she told me an interesting story about the reason Gardino was killed off in the show. Apparently it was because of a squabble between actor Daniel Cash and Paul Haggis. But not for some silly actorish thing, oh no. Cash and his wife (known to my fannish pal) were expecting a child. When the pregnancy became difficult, he requested some time off to be with her (I think she was in NY, he in Toronto at the time). But Paul Haggis, in a very asshattish way, denied his request, so Cash asked to be written out. The rest, as they say, is history, and the result is one of the more powerful episodes (Juliet is Bleeding). That cemetery scene, with no dialogue, always makes me shiver and weep.
On the other hand, it also resulted in Dewey. So, a mixed bag.
