Very Exciting News!! New Due South Community!!

I am generally very nice and will make sure to cut tag any entries that get long, so as not to clog up your friends lists. This entry, however, is OMG SO IMPORTANT that you're all getting it, whole hog, and I'm not cutting a damn thing *g*

brooklinegirl and myself have started a new Due South community called ds_recs. Below is the information straight from the user info page, and then I'll talk more at the bottom.

"Welcome to Due South Recs, our all-around fannish reccing site. We cover everything! The concept is similar to that of DS Flashback, but on a much grander scale. Our goal is to create a renewed excitement about the fandom, through a series of recs. Rather that simply reccing fic, we want people to rec anything, EVERYTHING, related to Due South.

The way it works is this: we have a team of writers you know and trust from DS fandom signed on to a one-month stint as DS reccers. We invite other people to take their places one month from now, and hopefully there will be others for the month after that, and so on. Four days out of the month, where you get to rec something that is near and dear to your heart!

Write an entry about your favorite episode! An entry about the first fic you read! Talk about what three episodes you'd use to pimp people into the fandom! Write about your favorite scenes from the show! Post links to your favorite fics, your favorite vids, your favorite pictures, your favorite icons! Make a set of icons to share specifically with the community! Write a Character Manifesto-type things, where you do an entry specifically about your favorite character! Or about your favorite pairing! Talk about your favorite writers in an author-overview! Post a yousendit link to your favorite song that reminds you about DS and tell why!

The memories page will have all the previous recs sorted into Vid Recs, Fic Recs, Author Recs, Song Recs, etc., so you can see what has already been covered. Easy as pie!

So - what does this all mean??

See, the thing is, we all love Due South, right? I mean - think about it! Ray Kowalski! Fraser! Vecchio! WELSH! Frannie! (Frannie/Welsh!! *g*) erm - Anyway - Turnbull! Thatcher! Stella! Huey! Dewey! BOB! MORT!

Gah - it's just - you watch this show and you LOVE it, right?

But, I mean, it's fandom. And things change and people come and go. And all of a sudden you look around and it's like, New! Shiny! Fandom! or, uhm, in my case, Old! Mortifying! But Estrella loves it anyway! Fandom! but - whatever. The point is that sometimes we all need a little kick - a little push - to remember just why we fell in love with these guys (and girls, and half-wolves) to begin with.

Five reccers, each with an assigned day, to rec one thing a week. As with ds_flashback, this is set up as a lj user, and each month the new team will be given the password to be able to post their recs. That's a total of only four things you love related to Due South. WHO DOESN'T HAVE FOUR THINGS THEY LOVE ABOUT DUE SOUTH!! And it's not just fic recs like ds_flashback was, though of course, fic recs are wonderful. It's ANYTHING. Just - let's start spreading the DS love around again. Really get people excited.

The thing is, to make this thing work, we need *everyone* in it. Or as many people as humanly possible. Someone recs something you like? TELL them that! Talk about it! Let's get some conversations and creative juices and just general all around OMG SQUEE going for these guys.
