Ray Vecchio's Birthday Challenge!

So it was established in episode 2 of season 3 of due South–otherwise known as “Eclipse”, otherwise known as the one where Welsh bobs for trout–that RayV’s birthday is on September 21. Thus, on that day in just a few short weeks, the dS virtual bar invites you to kick back with the “Big Man on Mulberry Street” vid and celebrate all things RayV! More specific information can be found below the cut, but for now, just know that his birthday is fast approaching and we’d love to be able to do something for it! Pretty much whatever you feel inspired to do–make posts about RayV that day! Write a fic! Come up with a RayV rec list! Pictures of RayV in various party hats! etc–would be amazing and much appreciated.

     

• I will make a collection on AO3 for anyone & everyone who wants to participate there--watch our comm and/or tumblr for a link as Sept 21 gets closer! Please also use the tag “dsvb challenge” so I can easily find your works in case there are any problems.


• Any posts made to tumblr using the tag “Ray Vecchio Day” or “dsvb challenge” will be reblogged by the network blog (tumblr version of a comm, essentially) periodically throughout the day.


• You can also submit works or links to works on other sites to the network blog & we will publish them for you! Or you can directly post to our lj comm, if you find that preferable.


• If none of the above options work, you can always send it directly to me! Either comment on this post with the necessary info or ask me for an email address to send things to a day or so in advance.


• I will amass a masterpost as the day begins to wind down and post it here, on our tumblr network blog, and to our lj comm. Please PLEASE have things up by 8pm MDT (3am GMT) if you want them to show up in the masterpost at the end of the day! If they’re late, they will be added the following day.

Once again, please feel free to make anything & everything you want that’s Ray Vecchio themed! All sorts of things are welcome; the only stipulation is that they must be intended to celebrate RayV or at a stretch David Marciano, must be shareable online in some way (did you knit something or bake a cake? Snap a pic, tell us about it! But it doesn’t count if you, say, went to the park and had a RayV party and vaguely mention that you did so on twitter), and must not be offensive or derogatory. Anything that violates these guidelines will not be included in the masterpost, sorry folks! If you have any questions, please feel free to comment below or contact me via the network blog (dsvirtualbar) or on twitter (thisaintbc).

Hee! One happy fangirl has already produced a little picture in celebration of the event. She's on facebook, and doesn't do Tumblr, so has asked me to pass it on to you to use as you please.

She wouldn't mind in the slightest! In fact, she would be delighted. She's a lovely dueSer - she's made me some wonderful dS fridge magnets - and did a whole bunch of them for the RCW139 convention. You may remember her as one half of the couple who's engagement was announced at the convention, Cathy.

Anyway, she wouldn't mind at all.

Oh - and by the way. I'm writing a couple of little light hearted pieces for it as well. Given all the angst I drop on poor Vecchio, the least I can do is let him have (hopefully) good clean fun.

If they take a turn in the porn direction - well, I hope they don't. But if they do? Not my fault.

I wasn't actually at the convention--college took all my money, and time--but I think I did hear about that!
This really is such an amazing early positive response to a brand new thing!

It is getting good responses on facebook - we should twitter it as well and spread it around forums. It would be awesome if this could become an annual thing. :D (Ray's birthday features prominently in Bookman by the way, though I picked another date, in spite of canon, because it fitted better with the plot, and co-incided with the actual eclipse that year. So for me, he has two birthdays - though every day is a grand day to celebrate our RayV.)

I am so looking forward to seeing what people come up with!

That's great! I've vaguely mentioned it a bit on my twitter, but, uh, my personal twitter is sort of my private space to hang out w friends so basically everyone who's seen the links there already knew about it? Maybe I should make a dsvb twitter or something...

Yessss, me too! Hopefully we'll get to see the different sides of the fandom come together and celebrate the same event, which is always fun! (Crossing the platforms, aw yis! *g*)
