The exceptions being Steve McQueen's character (if I'm mapping the actors correctly), who he meets in the opening scene with the hearse-driving, and the Kid. And yet, it's McQueen's character who instantly and through the whole thing becomes his right-hand man and closest thing to a confidant or partner -- *not* any of these guys he has existing relationships with. And we don't really see how or why that happens. But there they go riding off into the sunset together at the end. What's up with that? :) )
