Hi all!

Just had a thought that since I had great fun following the recently released season 5 of Star Trek: Discovery—starring CKR—and giffing my way through it, I might as well share the gifs! Maybe you'll also enjoy the ears, the uniform and the intensity. Here they are.

The series is not bad, and CKR makes it way better. I enjoyed it immensely.

It was especially fun to follow because of the weekly episode releases as opposed to a full-season drop!
And CKR definitely does elevate the material. I'm happy I got to see him in something new!

I don't have a tumblr account anymore, so I really couldn't see much, but I appreciate the CKR love. He definitely brought Rayner to life. He helped Discovery more than it had been in the previous seasons. It's one my least favorite ST universes. Callum made it watchable.

Loved the artwork, but again, because I don't have an account, I couldn't let the artist know that.

Again disclaimer that I am unfamiliar with Star Trek beyond this one season (and TOS, which I've started about a week ago and am enjoying immensely), but I found Discovery intensely frustrating and could really really feel the effect his presence had in making it more watchable haha! So handshake there.

Sorry, I didn't have the spoons/means to repost my stuff elsewhere :') But then again you've seen the show so there's not much you missed in my gifs haha.

I used to have a tumblr account, but got so frustrated. I was constantly getting porn spam and I found it difficult to interact with other fans. It's great for graphics, but not a great platform for communication.

I love Star Trek. I've watched nearly every spin off. The only two shows I haven't liked are Enterprise and Discovery. While Discovery has some diversity and I like the gay couple, the show itself is chaotic and bland. I really dislike most of the storylines and the main character as well as Tilly. So, CKR's Rayner is the only reason I would watch the last season. He made a crucial difference.

I very much agree on "chaotic and bland", haha. That's exactly the feeling. As per discussion I had elsewhere, it's been fun following this season for him, but it'd be cooler to see him in something he doesn't have to elevate, you know.

Oh, I so agree. I'd love to see him in a new show where he's got a meaty role, but he's not the villain. I loved him in Due South, but he was also excellent in Shattered. Oh, and never forget, the was seriously good as Leoben in Battlestar Galactica. He's just an all around great actor.

I've watched a lot of his early-ish work in film recently and I'm impressed every time! He does good stuff with mid material, but he's incredible when he has something good to work with. So yeah, fingers crossed for something substantial and non-villainous ahead :D

That’s great! I still can’t get over that his character’s name is RAYner, someone in the writers room much be a Due South fan. It reminds of the time he appeared on Supernatural as a character named Roy. I don’t watch Star Trek but I’ll definitely check it out, it wouldn’t be the first I watched something just for Callum

Haha I have literally never seen any Star Trek before I watched specifically only this season of Discovery for CKR. I'm very much not a fan of Discovery in particular, but I did have a nice time socially, chatting with other fans along the way, and I did enjoy his performance a lot!
Well, and now that resulted in me having started watching the original series, so that's an extra bonus!

And yes haha Roy always trips me up when I return to that spn episode!

Yeah, there are several other things he has been in where he is "Ray" or "Roy". And then in "Shattered" he was "Ben" and that really distracted me. LOL.

I never saw Shattered but I heard about his name. That’s kinda cool

Shattered, the series, is more than a bit of a mess... but CKR is FANTASTIC in it, and he is the star of the series. Molly Parker, too - and Camille Sullivan. The ensemble cast is - well, kind of a Da Vinci's Inquest reunion, but that's a good thing. They're all great.

If you get the chance to see it - do. You will not regret it.

OMG, that's right - I totally forgot about him wearing eyeliner in that one episode!! Or was it two?? I wish I could re-watch Shattered right now, damn it! 🙂

Discovery is one of my favorite Star Trek shows (tied with DS9) and it was great seeing CKR on it!

Holy cow - I haven't watched it all - waiting for a day when I can binge everything all at once - but these gifs are fantastic.

But most especially, I love the very first gif in this posting (https://flownwrong.tumblr.com/post/747008519776157696/callum-keith-rennie-as-captain-rayner-in-star) - because that is SO PERFECT!! OMFG I absolutely ❤️ that you giffed that because CKR does that EXACT SAME LITTLE SMIRK/GRIN in either one of the official episodes, or the S3-4 blooper reel - and IT IS TO DIE FOR. I can't believe he did it again - but I'm so glad he did! - and it looks SO GOOD on him, no matter his age!

I know what you mean, that grin is insane-making. Patented CKR charisma. And oh my god, the age looks GREAT on him in Discovery. I wasn't following the show at all and only watched s5 with no context for him, but his grip on me is so strong I'm still itching to write one more fic with him, even though I wasn't even planning to write the first one it just happened haha. It's not a very enjoyable show, but he makes up for everything else.

Without spoiling anything, I can just say that this is another case of him elevating the material, ha. He does great things with his character that I am certain most other people wouldn't have. So, yeah. Yell when you watch it!

omg, now I'm looking forward to it even more. Of course, I'd rather the material be elevated anyway, but I'll take CKR elevating the material! I'm FINE with that! 🙂
