Admin news
Hi, all! I have a few bits of admin news:
1. We have a new tag called =fandom games. If you run something like a Mad Libs game, a digital scavenger hunt, fandom tag, or any other kind of DS and/or C6D game that is different from a traditional challenge, this is the tag to use. Some things can be challenges AND games, too, so use both tags if it seems appropriate.
2. Everyone is welcome to host things like this here at
ds_noticeboard. We do prefer fanworks to be hosted on your journals and LINKED here, as usual, but we absolutely welcome fandom events, too. If you have any questions, please ask!
3. ALWAYS tag your posts, please! (If you don't, then I end up doing it and I don't always know what tags are best. Note: the only posts I don't tag are beta-requests, since there's little need to index those.)
4. HELP! I'm afraid the fandom resources linked up in the top corner of the noticeboard main page are woefully out of date, and it would be great if we could make it a little easier for newbies to find their way around. Would anyone be willing to put together a new version? This could totally be a team-effort if multiple people can volunteer.
As always, if you need anything related to the comm, want to make suggestions, or have any questions, please leave a comment or email me. Thanks!

(And so sorry for the really really late reply - I didn't get a notification, drat LJ.)

It may be worth crowd-sourcing this -- I'm sure bunches of people here have thoughts on what should go into what's basically a fandom welcome packet, and I know they're better than I am at remembering what comms are where! It may even have come up at the Due South panel at Bitchin Party, I don't know. But I definitely would like this place to be as user-friendly as possible.
Also, an updated list of links for me to replace the existing one with would be great. I'm pretty sure I need to revise/update the one on tags, so it matches what we've got.
I was thinking of doing a fandom-wide social for Canada Day weekend, June 29-July 1st, and maybe that would be a good occasion to debut an updated LJ layout for the noticeboard, as well as the newbie guide/resources list. Does that seem like a doable timeframe for you?

If I were to make suggestions, I would first want a Basics of the Show with a neutral, all inclusive POV. A fandom overview, explaining the Rays, Fraser, the characters. Then, I would want to compile overall archive lists: ie, Exwood, Fanfiction.net, Ao3, any others, where people can find fanfic for any character.
Then I'd want to dig out the specialized lists people have done for a subcategory. IE, the old and the new Collected Stories, the K/V list, the Wingfic list. The recs comms could fit somewhere in here.
Then we could have the research stuff under that. Episode reviews. Meta and all that.
I think if it was crowdsourced some, sure. I've been to all these places, but I don't routinely bookmark 'em. >.<
Somewhere in there, I think we should have a meet and greet post with that all active fans in the fandom can thumbtack and track and newbies can post to and get some love and introductions and that. I know one of the hardest things in this fandom, from experience, was just finding people to talk to.
Like that? ^_^

There are loads of fandom social posts scattered around, but asking people to track things into infinity is unlikely to happen. I am trying to make sure there are 3 or 4 big fandom socials a year, so that people can get a chance to hang out. Plus there are the C6D rewatch chats, which is where a whole lot of the socializing has taken place. Assuming they're still doing them. There was a hiatus and I haven't looked to see where things stand there.
Like I said, crowd-sourcing. I have a terrible memory for what's where, but other people will know! Once we get a huge list of everything available, it can get sorted and maybe divided into multiple posts, if that seems easiest to manage.

Lemme see what I can find linkwise.
