HELP HELP

(it's in the name of art...or at least porn)

Anyone hear know a) what kind of gun Ray carries on the job? On most cop shows, they say most cops prefer a Glock, but it's Due South, so who knows? Anyone know enough about guns to know his by sight?

and b) Anyone got a close up shot of Ray's bracelet and/or knows what it's made of?

Much thanks! Any and all help is appreciated.

:)

My understanding is that Ray carries a Glock 9 mm. I've looked up pix of that gun, and it does seem to be the one. There are slightly different versions of this gun, but they all look pretty much alike.

I can't post a pic of the bracelet for you, sorry. I am away from home and having enough trouble just keeping connected on the hotel's iffy wireless connection. Looking forward to more fic from you, though! Yay! :)

Can't help with the gun, but consensus says Ray's bracelet is made of your standard chrome-plated bead chain, which can be had at most hardware stores. That's how I got mine. *g*

I think Ray wears it because Callum does. *g* But Ray should have a reason too!

i dunno about the gun, but [livejournal.com profile] brooklinegirl has a page devoted to callum's hands, which has two pictures of the bracelet: http://members.tripod.com/~happyfriendbox//rayshands.html

it looks like a double row of silver ball-chains, or whatever you call the kind of chain with little, linked ball-bearings, like what they hang dog-tags from.

with you all the way, grrlfriend. i feel sheepish, but stare fixedly anyway.

okay, and i also lied: i do believe i can second [livejournal.com profile] j_s_cavalcante's assertion that ray's gun is a glock 9. which is, after all, the gun of choice pretty much everywhere, so even if it ain't true, it makes a perfectly good story.

Yay, glad you found the answers so fast!

On a somewhat modly note, in the future, questions like this are probably better suited to [livejournal.com profile] dues_research, which is All DS Questions, All the Time! And which I totally recommend for tracking down those tiny, awesome, specific details. *g*

No worries! Mostly I want people to know [livejournal.com profile] dues_research is there, because it's awesome! :D

Hey, I called the bf over to identify the gun. I showed him caps of Seeing is Believing and Spy Vs. Spy, and he's guessing Beretta. He didn't know the exact model, but you could do some research on what was most commonly used by law enforcement in the '90s.

I have no idea, but it seems about right (compare the first picture on page seven of Stormy's Spy Vs. Spy screencaps with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beretta_92). Glocks, on the other hand, are both boxy and plastic. Not nearly pretty enough for Ray, I'm sure. *g*

Thanks--mystery solved! I had read up on research other fans did and then went looking myself. A lot of PDs around the country did indeed switch to the Glock 9mm in the early 90s, and that may be the source of the confusion. Because Chicago apparently was an exception.

I did some more extensive online checking tonight and found that until at least 1998 or 1999, the Chicago PD was (people say inexplicably) against using Glocks, even when the NYPD and other large PDs were switching to them. Guns from four other manufacturers were optional, and Beretta was one of the options. The Beretta 92f is apparently widely used by military personnel, too.

Interesting tidbit--Chicago PD officers were (and are still) apparently required to buy their own guns. Most PDs, at least in big cities, issue weapons to their officers, but not Chicago. One more thing for Ray to gripe about. :)

Anyway, thanks!

Just checked with my husband who knows about these things (!) and it is a Beretta 92F

Hope this helps :)

I always refer to it as a black Beretta 9mm (Lugar rounds) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beretta_92F/FS). The 92F version. 99.9% sure Kowalski doesn't use the Glock.
