What's a good way to handle it, when you really don't want the pairing to be clear right away, but neither do you want to hack off your readers?
(I have to be away from the computer for a while now; not ignoring you, just gone.)

i do think that listing a pairing still leaves lots of room for surprises. we don't know if it's first time or established relationship, and plenty of stories listed with a pairing are really pre-slash anyway. so i'm not sure listing a pairing would really spoil anyone for your fic.
the other advantage to listing a pairing is that people who like that pairing will read your fic. f/k is not going to scare readers away, it's going to make them WANT to read it.
basically, i think listing pairings, ratings, warnings, &c. are there for reader convenience. it enables a reader to read what they want, and not read what they don't want. it enables them to have basic expectations when they start reading a fic. i think in the end, that's a more satisfying reading experience for most people and leads to the most people who will like your fic reading it, and the most people who wouldn't enjoy it not coming around and crashing your party. but some authors definitely choose not to do those things because they think it isn't right for their fic. so long as you know the risks, it's a valid choice (so long as you're not breaking comm rules or anything, of course, which *you* certainly aren't).
anyway, i certainly don't speak for anyone else. i just commented to let you know that i personally had had a bumpy reader experience with your fic--do with that information what you will. :)
