Summary: Finding yourself standing over what looked to be a very dead guy and having no clue how you got there… Not a good thing. Ray stared down at the body and blinked stupidly. Everything leading up to this moment was a blank, a black void.

Dude, there was no squinting required. *g* Very nice with the angst and the h/c, but my favorite part may be Dead!Bob. The Jello thing was so very D!B, and the "fight for it" - oh, Bob. There were a lot of nice touches, like Stella being pissy that Ray had given Fraser power of attorney, and RayV doing his best to distract Fraser.

it was so good! and i really hope victoria gets nailed in the court proceedings. the characterizations in this were fantastic. my favorite parts were Dr. Honeycutt! (MASH fan!) and when you described the symptoms of brain damage that Ray already had! LMAO!

Yeah! Someone recognized the Dr. Honeycutt reference!
And I did the research on effects of brain trauma and found the damage to the left hemisphere of the Frontal lobe could result in some really familiar personality traits. It worked well for me :)

This was excellent! I loved it. I read it in increments, because I had to keep pausing to process the awfulness. I love the structure, how time moves erratically for Ray, how Ray has to reconstruct what happened, how I was as convinced as Ray himself that he was dead (even though I noticed he was still bleeding earlier). The brain damage symptoms Ray already had were cute, and I loved his parents being there like that, Stella as the messenger that Fraser is now the person in charge of Ray's medical decisions, the sneak peek at Fraser's breakdown in the storage room and Ray's comment, and how Fraser *can't see him* oh, that hurt so much. You totally swept me up in this, and I'm so happy it all worked out.

And that would have been a crippling loss to fandom.

Actually, I like the scene in part because it gives me hope that Ray will come out of this all right. I don't know if it's off the wall for me to think so, but if he's already built a new network of synapses to make up for the frontal lobe damage, maybe a bullet in an area that's being mostly bypassed anyway won't be so bad?

Wow... You nailed it. That is exactly why I put that bit into the story. The bullet was small caliber and Ray's brain was short circuiting around that area anyway. So it wouldn't be impossible for him to just wake up.

So no, you're not wrong. Ray is fine. (And he's calling Fraser 'Ben' too.)

And, I loved the Fraser/RayV scene about RayK not calling him "Ben." I completely missed that in the ending! What a nice touch. Great fic.

I loved Ray petting the serge, over and over, Fraser freaking out and running down the stairs to trash the supply closet, Stella being so irritated about Ray giving Fraser the decision-making power, Ray's brain damage symptoms, and Fraser's father getting Ray so pissed off that he fought his way back from teh brink.

I'm glad you liked it. It took me ages to finish it (writer's block hit just after Vecchio left the hospital room) and I almost didn't post it at all. But then the Dead!bob bit just magically popped out of my keyboard while I was sitting there.
